I purchased a cake for a special 50th birthday. What I received was a cake in which I could and should have made myself. The writing was very amateur and basic (please see the picture below...the cake wafers were purchased separately and added later). The cake ordered was supposed to be a lemon cake with raspberry filling and buttercream icing. The cake was moist and you can tell made from scratch however it was NOT lemon. The buttercream was ok and I LOVE buttercream so ok isn't good. The best part was the raspberry filling. I am new to the area and found them online. I wish them much success however I have no intention of returning and I'm in need of a baker for my upcoming wedding and that of a friend who is renewing their vows. So after I write my honest opinion. I received an email and an insulting response from the owner. I received an email about "my negative review in this economical climate". My review was honest. I didn't give them a 1. I stated my tastebuds and how I felt. However I guess as the owner stated my commercial lemon and buttercream taste buds didn't understand her baking. I am a foodie...I have a very extensive palate. I bake myself but do not call myself a professional baker. I coordinate events and I refer people very often. What I do ask as a consumer that you read the response I received. Would you really want to do business with a company that can't accept they are NOT for everyone? What I didn't originally put in my comment was how I was treated when I went to pick up a cake I paid for sight unseen. I trusted the reviews and made a choice one I cannot take back but a mistake I will not make again. So whatever the owner response is at this point I take with a grain of sand. My review was honest with no malicious intent. I never spoke about my treatment in the store just how my tastebuds (as commercial as they may be, enjoying pledge and all-lol) did not enjoy the cake. Your eyes aren't lying does this writing look professional to you? Would you have sold a cake like this and expected your paying customer to be pleased? Please read the reviews especially those which are "negative " the owner makes a personal attack to those. See how she responds to any comment she views as negative but the people who say they enjoy her baking she doesn't take the time to even say "Thank you". Your patronage, your money matters, your voice and customer service should be important. Her insults shows who she is as a person...next time it will be a store brought cake (lol)...it will taste better than the custom (mess) and unprofessional behavior received. Now the owner-Meghan Gourley, changes her comments and use my legal name...šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚. I will not bow to a BULLY who is mad that I didn't like their product, customer service and who lacks professionalism. Stay away from this toxic person....read all the reviews including the negative ones and the owner response....proceed at your own riskā›” I've posted the inside of that cake....it tastes just like it looks....like it's going in the garbage (yeah the original rating changed due to the bullying by the owner).

A forever customer!! We first worked with Megan from Sweet and Savory in 2016 when she created our wedding cake and we’ve been hooked since :) Since then we’ve gone back to place orders for my sisters graduation - she made an awesome Towson Grad cake- our daughters birthday cakes for 1 and 2 years, which was adorably themed for her birthday at the barn and Wonderland for her 1st with an amazing Cheshire cat- and most recently gender reveal cupcakes! Her buttercream flavor is delicious and the whole cakes always come out delicious and beautiful! All of our guests always compliment the cakes because of sight and flavor and ask where it’s from! We’ve obviously had other cakes at other events from local vendors and they do not compare in taste and texture to Sweet & Savory :) We hope she always keeps her doors open because we will continue to seek her for our events that require cake/pastries :)

I have so many good things to say about this bakery! Meghan baked our wedding cake in October of 2019, and we just picked up our first anniversary cake from her today. For our wedding, she baked us a top tier wedding cake with three flavors of cupcakes. Everything was perfect. They were gorgeous, and absolutely delicious. Everyone loved them! The cake was the best. It was so moist and full of fresh flavor. We loved that she was so flexible about making the icing less sweet than is typical in America. It was just splendid! You can really tell that she uses the best ingredients. The fruit was fresh, and today as we tasted our first anniversary cake (a replica of our wedding cake), we were taken back to that special day one year ago. It was exactly as delicious as before! Thank you for everything, Meghan!

I unfortunately did not get very far with this bake shop. I came into the shop and really liked their pastries so I decided to contact them to inquire about wedding cakes for my upcoming wedding (via the "Contact Us" form on their website). A month later, no answer and I come into the shop again to inquire and they refer back to their website's "Contact Us" form. That's fine, maybe it didn't go through the first time. I submit the "Contact Us" form again and wait. Still nothing. I called and tried to inquire and they said to use the website. I try submitting another form one more time months later and I get a response! The email did have a tidbit with "if this fits within your budget, we'd be happy to schedule something with you", which I thought was a little weird to say but I really liked their pastries so I just brushed it off. So I reply back...and nothing again. It's getting to the point that I have to start looking for other vendors to make sure that we're not falling behind in wedding planning. I'm not sure why they decided to brush me off (or if it was a tech error with their website). But after contacting 2 other bake shops and having someone answer the phone, respond back with clear, direct answers, and sounded happy to schedule tastings without the hint of "if I can afford it", I'm happy to move on.

Edit after response from owner: All of my attempts at contacting them were before the pandemic except for the last one, so I don't believe it was due to the pandemic that they were not answering. In addition, I responded to their emails but never got anything after that. If I had received a reply notifying that tastings were cancelled or the business was closed until further noticed, that would have been completely satisfactory. I understand that this was not the best time to put in a 1-star review due to how the pandemic has affected small business and I apologize for the bad timing. And I do apologize if it was a technical error. My only request for improvement is to actually follow up with customers when they come into your shop for an inquiry or give you a call or reply back...

I ordered a small chocolate birthday cake with chocolate mousse filling and Swiss buttercream icing. It is delicious! It was moist and the little bit left is still moist five days later. It's also the perfect amount of sweetness. It's not overbearingly sweet, which my sister doesn't like (I just like sweets) and she loves it! The only "problem " is that they forget to put the flowers on and to be honest, the only reason I wanted flowers was to have more icing! So, not a big deal at all! Don't sweat the small stuff! I will definitely be back and I highly recommend this bakery! Everyone was so nice there, also! You won't regret it!

Edit: I most definitely asked for flowers and said that I didn't care what color they were. I told them that I wanted the extra icing as I stated in my original review. I am sorry that there was a miscommunication on your side. I told whoever took the order that it was a birthday AND that it was my birthday. I gave the bakery a great review and was chill about the misunderstanding so I don't understand why you are being...
