Finally got to Taste of Country last weekend. Had been wanting to try it for awhile, but my work hours mon-fri out of town until late, kept me from catching them. I saw a post in Knox Foodies FB page for one of their breakfast plates, and it looked so good, so finally had to get there. Walking in, it seemed very unclear as to where to order. A large serving counter also with ice cream, chocolates and register runs the length of the room, and different customers were trying to order at all areas. Young girl at counter didn't say a word to me as I walked up, just looked at me with no expression. I ordered the barnyard platter, on menu as scrambled egg, bacon, sausage patty, peppers, over a biscuit, with everything covered in sausage gravy. I first asked girl at counter if I could get with onions only no peppers. She said she'd have to check, then said they just used their last biscuit. I said that was fine that I didn't really want the biscuit anyway, and asked if I could get hasbrowns underneath instead. She went to back to check. It was decided that was ok, and I waited for my order. Pretty fast to prepare order, and I headed home to MTV. Getting home, excited to eat my breakfast. There was no egg and no onions on meal. For the cost, it was sad part was missing. Everything just tasted ok. Had to season gravy a lot, as it was pretty bland. A suggestion might be to chop up especially bacon and maybe sausage patty, as it was difficult to eat, with them whole. Glad I tried it, but probably wouldn't try again unless in the area. Maybe for ice cream. The ice cream flavors were unique, and...
Read moreFriendly people. Great selections of meat and cheese. We ordered American horseradish cheese and it was not only delicious but 40% off the $5.99 regular price. We ordered the beef and noodle lunch and ate at the tables inside. We were early so they had just put out the hot food. We have eaten here on 3 other occasions and ordered the same thing and loved it but the noodles were not cooked and they were served with no broth whatsoever. There was watery broth (not creamed or thickened) but a strainer spoon was used to place on plate. It was tasteless and very dissapointing. We also got mashed potatoes, gravy and green beans with small pieces of hard ham that was inedible. Very dissapointed this visit. Cost was good $8.65. Enough to share. Sometimes you can't always get it right. I'm sure if we'd gotten there at 2 pm the noodles would have had time to get tender and maybe thicken the watery broth a bit. Hope this was just an 'off day'. Postscript- the owner responded to this review and wants to make it 'right'. She was really awesome and had started a new cook at the time of my visit but has been let go since. She really prides herself in the quality of her food, so she was very concerned about this review. Glad she cares. We'll give it...
Read moreDidn't think to snap pics of food until it was too late because it was all so yummy and quality that we gobbled it all up too fast. We were passing thru on our way up to ski at SnowTrails and needed to eat ..this was a perfect stop! Note that they were QUICK!! It was a sit down experience that kept us back out onto the road. My son got the Cinnamon French toast and said that other places would have charged $8-10 for that fabulous plate of quality French toast but it was only $5!! Hubs and other son said the sausage gravy and biscuits was really good/perfect and even the biscuits were delicious plain..not too dry like some. I had the 2 egg plate with bacon which was good too! And it's a cute little general store as well so adorable all around. We were pleasantly impressed....
