I decided to visit the Homestead Family Restaurant with my family on Fatherâs Day and received my worst dining experience in 30 years as a resident of Knox County. We ordered two giant pancakes, French toast, and an omelette to go along with our coffee. A half hour after placing our order, I noticed that many of the tables had turned over with new customers seated, many of whom had been served their food already. Our server had never checked back with us to offer refills or explain the delay with the food. At about forty-five minutes I began growing a bit impatient. My patience ended after about an hour. I noticed a family just two tables over were being served the same two giant pancakes we had ordered and they had placed their order fifteen minutes after my family had ordered. We decided to leave and make breakfast at home.
I contacted the server to let him know that we were leaving, as I wanted to pay for my drinks He became irate, yelling at me and saying that they were understaffed and could not believe my family had left. I was told that âI didnât understand the restaurant business, and he challenged me to go into the kitchen to see if I could cook any fasterâŚâ He beckoned me to follow him over to the kitchen window while grumbling that there were only a few people working and now he was going to have to throw away food. He simply didnât get it: you canât tell me that you are still working on a food order (in this case the two giant pancakes) when you just served it to a table placed their order fifteen minutes afterwards! But here is what I DO understand-as a server, your job is to provide friendly service and to communicate with your customers. It is not your customerâs fault if the restaurant is short staffed. Hire more help if necessary. But most importantly, NEVER vent hostility/rage on any of your patrons. THAT is unacceptable/inexcusable under any circumstance. Sadly, in the restaurant industry, a singular poor dining experience can wipe away many pleasant ones. In my familyâs caseâwe wonât returnâand that is horrible to say coming from a Fredericktown resident. I support local business. I just donât support this kind of behavior.
Hopefully future patrons will have a better...

This gave us plenty of time since we needed to be there at 1pm. There was a table of 5 already there, 3 ppl at the counter, and the two of us. We sat towards the back away from the door hoping it was cooler as there was no ac in the place that I could tell. A gentleman brought waters and a lovely lady took our order at 10:38am. I ordered 2 chocolate chip pancakes and toast and my husband ordered corn beef hash omelette and potatoes. Between swatting flies and sweating, it was uncomfortable. At 11am when no food had come out to anyone I was getting nervous. At 11:10 I asked the lady if she knew how much longer it might be as we needed to be somewhere. She checked with the kitchen and told us that ours was just now on the grill. By this time 3 other groups have come in including 2 men who sat at the counter. At 11:30 they brought out food to the 2 men at the counter who came in 30 mins after us. They then brought my husbandâs food but not mine. I said to the gal Iâm sorry we need to be at Muskingum at 1pm so we need all of our food to go, silverware, waters, and the check as itâs now 11:45am. By the time my food was actually ready the men who came in after us were done eating, had paid and left. We left and once we were on the road my husband and I took turns driving so we could eat. Only then did I notice that I had no chocolate chips in my pancakes but they were burnt, entirely too thick, and had no toast. Yet we paid for everything we ordered. Had I read the reviews before we stopped, we...
