This restaurant has been a round while in Freeport, but since it's a little out of our way, when I do visit home (Clute) I don't go there often when I visit. In fact, it's been several years since I've been there. After our long road trip we woke up the next morning and came here for breakfast. My dad and brothers come here regularly because they live in the Richwood and Lake Jackson area, and like the food. My dad especially likes the green sauce. Our waitress was extremely kind and took our orders quickly, filled our coffee regularly, and made sure we had more than enough green sauce for our food. The food came out quickly and was very good. I ordered the Hippo in a bowl (no tortilla). Very tasty, and the green sauce was just the right amount of heat to it. It's a very clean restaurant with plenty of seating, and I would highly...

The chips and salsa were fantastic, the borracho beans were excellent. The rice was wonderful. The guacamole on the plate was fantastic. The pricing was fantastic. Two flaws though. Such a bummer. The chef left the membrane on the fajitas and so they were extremely chewy. I didn't even finish it. Too bad cuz they tasted pretty dang good!.. and the waitress was pretty bored. Bit of an attitude but there was another lady I think the manager who was extremely nice so that made up for it... I will go back for sure.. update... I ordered beef enchiladas and they were inedible.. I could not eat them and I opened up the enchilada to look inside and it didn't look like beef to me. It had the appearance of pork? It was sort of a white color but they insisted it was beef and smelled funny. They gave me my money back but I will not be...

Disappointing experience at Maria's Kitchen.

The server seemed indifferent, but it was the manager's attitude that really took the cake. I brought in a drink from Bucky's because I apparently wanted it to get warm in the sweltering heat in my car, and somehow that was a huge offense. The manager was rude and unwelcoming, making me question whether I wanted to stay and spend my money there. To top it off, the food was mediocre - lacking flavor and with sauces that were more like bland tomato puree than anything exciting.

Wouldn't recommend this place. There are plenty of other great options in the area that actually care about customer service and serve decent food. Save yourself the trouble and look elsewhere. Avoid Maria's Kitchen and explore better...

We live in Houston and were visiting family and friends in Freeport and fell into Marias Kitchen. Great service. Excellent food. Good prices. Enough said. We had a pancake, egg & bacon breakfast, a entomatada plate and a good ol' hippo breakfast taco. The pancakes were fluffy, eggs over medium and bacon crispy exactly like my 10 yr old ordered. My entomatada plate was so fresh, hot and comforting. Of course my significant other's hippo was on par also. My family and I were highly satisfied and will return soon.
