I have no idea how this place has 3+ stars. I will start with the positives. The service is good and the lady who waited on us was attentive and accommodating, making sure that we had what we needed (once we had to hail her as we needed more iced tea). As far as the food goes, very bad. I say this having extensive experience with Japanese food as I was born and raised in Japan. Blue Fin similar to another Japanese Restaurant I reviewed, has poor sushi chefs and old fish. The sushi was bordering on inedible. I ordered the Salmon Skin Roll and the salmon skin was not crispy but overly oily with no seasoning so it tasted like flavorless fish jerky. The soy sauce was watered down and did not have the umami expected in it. This was one of the times when I did not finish my food as I was afraid the fish was not only not fresh but over it's due date. I was here with 2 other co-workers and they didn't seem to notice how bad it was but once I recommended a local Japanese Restaurant and they had the chance to taste what a good Japanese Restaurant was, they were floored. I guess you just don't know what you don't know but know this, Blue Fin is one of the worst Japanese Restaurants ever. I don't typically review everywhere I eat and I hadn't reviewed my favorite Japanese Restaurants until I went to 2 others that compelled me to write the reviews. My recommendation would be to hire people who know how to Sushi Chef. Being a Sushi Chef is an art and takes many years of training and revered in Japan. You can't just hire anybody and expect a good outcome. Sorry I had to be so negative but wanted to get my...
Read moreSushi is good, but not all of them. Super Mario and Scorpion King are our favorites. Do not get the Sasuke (gooey scallops at the top), Holy Cow (has beef. Not good as sushi), or the Nigiri Sushi for Ikura (salmon eggs).
The ikura sushi I got did not taste good at all. It seemed rotten. I’ve eaten many ikura (salmon eggs) sushi in the US and many times in Japan when I lived there. There was something definitely wrong with theirs. After you eat Ikura, your mouth should feel refreshed and you’d want more. After I ate a few of theirs, I felt gross and got a smelly feeling in my mouth, almost enough to gag.
The sushi coming on huge display plates were cool. Nice for pictures since they present their sushi rolls well. The only other thing is that service is very slow here, whether there is a lot of people or not. We’ve gone many times when it was only us or just a few other parties and it was still extremely slow. It’s even slower when the place is packed.
If you want to try some interesting sushi rolls, go here. But don’t expect fast service or for every roll that they have to taste good. Stick to things that you know and you...
Read moreI was in the local area searching for a sushi restaurant and found Blufin. We ordered their dinner Nigiri and a california roll in the same bundle. You can tell the prices were sharpied out and written in to indicate new prices.
They added extra charges for food and increased the prices by as much as 30% from original prices. Is this due to inflation? Post-covid issues? However, you'd expect the quality to go up or atleast remain the same right? Wrong. The lettuce we got for our side came out discolored and brown as if it was sitting out all day. The nigiri were warm and had nothing but a piece of fish on the rice (no sign of rice vinegar). The rice on the california roll was hard and crispy.
When I walked in I noticed how empty it was and now I understand why. It was because of the downfall of quality and the upscale of price. It was also very warm inside so I'd suggest turning on the air conditioner.
Overall, very sad experience and I'm sure there are room for...
