I can't figure out why we keep giving this place another chance. Food is decent but staff is not very friendly at all. Yhe only place on the menu that mentions adding rice and beans says $1.75 so we verified with the waiter. He said $2. When he brought the meal they charged $2.25. We got a to go box and put the rest of the food in it including the green sauce. Our waiter decides to get us a bag and turns the container 90 degrees to put it in making all good hot yo on side. When we leave we get ice cream. Nastiest stuff ever. I take one bite and in the trash it goes. The manager comes out to talk to us about the pricing on the rice and beans and proceeds to tell us that they are $1.75 each. After telling him we'll never be back he has to grab a menu to look. Honestly, I'm not sure how they are still open. We tell him the comment box is so full that we barely got ours in and instead of opening it and taking them out he shoves them further down into the box. It's no telling how long it's been since emptied which tells me the could care less about comments. The only reason we went was because we wanted Mexican food and didn't want to drive to Gringos and aren't big fans of Rancho. This place is poorly managed our server shouldn't be in the restaurant business. It's sad because the food is good but we have issues like this every time we go so we won't be returning. The manager did finally give us $2 off our next visit. He can keep his $2 cause there won't be a next visit. I do find it bizarre how when restaurants give you a bad experience they give you something for the next visit and not taking care of this visit. The pic is our carryout after Miguel turned it 90 degrees. Our bill was $17.85 so we used a $20 and $5 so we could tip. He gave us $2.15 from the $20 and returned the $5. He needs to...
Read moreMy mother whom I look after and I decided to venture out and try a new place that we hadn't been before. This took us down League City Parkway to the newest in the chain of Luna Mexican Restaurants, of which there are several. This review is based solely on our sampling of their nachos plate. However, I did have look see at other tables and the Tex-Mex combos that I saw looked deliciously cheesy and legit. There was a red salsa and a green salsa for the chips. The green was more gray than green and not spectacular. I will update this review the next time we visit.
It is pretty certain that nachos were invented at the Restaurante Moderno in Piedras Negras by a bartender whose first name was Ignacio, thus, "Nacho", when a group of American housewives from the military base in Eagle Pass asked if the kitchen could provide them with some sort of snack for their get together (probably a bridge social). They loved it and asked what to ask for the next time. "Just ask for Nacho's Special", he said. The original would have been toasted tortilla slices, definitely with Cheddar cheese which is what would set it apart ( called Wees Cone' Seen in Mexico) and slices of chiles Jalapeños. No Doritos, no Velveeta or Quick Melt back in the day. And oven toasted tortillas.
And so, I was pleased to see the nachos coming out of the Luna kitchen were oven or broiler toasted, not microwaved, and came with real Cheddar cheese.
Service was good, as was the ambience. I can't speak for the regular menu but I did enjoy our nachos. There were three options: regular, or with ground beef (which we had) or shredded chicken, or with beef fajitas, priced accordingly. We opted for the large instead of the medium and it was more than enough...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at Luna’s Mexican Restaurant, and I was thoroughly impressed with both the food and the service. We ordered the fajitas, quesadillas, and the kids' chicken strips plate. The meats were incredibly tender and packed with flavor, and the quesadillas were equally delicious. I especially appreciated that the kids' chicken strips were well-seasoned not bland at all. Even my picky eater enjoyed them, which says a lot!
The complimentary chips and salsas were excellent. The red salsa had a nice kick without being overwhelming, while the green salsa was my personal favorite, light and fresh, although it's worth noting that it’s not a thick salsa, which may not be for everyone.
We opted for sweet tea with our meal, which was perfectly balanced, not overly sweet, just right. I can’t speak to the alcoholic beverages, as we didn’t try any on this visit.
The homemade tortillas were absolutely outstanding, soft, warm, and full of authentic flavor. Truly some of the best I’ve had!
To finish off our meal, we enjoyed the vanilla soft-serve ice cream, which had a delightful Mexican vanilla twist. It was far from your typical bland vanilla and made for a perfect ending to the meal.
The atmosphere was welcoming and clean. Although the restaurant has been around for several years, we visited right when they opened for the day and were immediately greeted with a fresh, clean scent throughout the space. The staff is amazing, patient, and welcoming.
Overall, Luna’s delivered an excellent dining experience, and I highly recommend it for families and anyone looking for flavorful, authentic Mexican food in a...
