La Escondida — Restaurant in Friendswood

my husband and i went here around 3pm on a monday. the host that greeted us was not friendly at all but we didn’t care much. the food was excellent and we had no complaints whatsoever about it but our server Fortino was absolutely horrible. he didn’t even greet us with a name or “hello” or anything. he just said “what do you want to drink” and when my husband asked if they had horchata, he laughed at him. while we were ordering our drinks he pulled out his cell phone and read a notification and then put it back in his pocket. he gave us the same “what do you want” when we ordered our food. our food was brought out in a timely manner and like i said it was delicious. i had a water to drink and my husband had sprite and when Fortino came to refill my water he also refilled my husbands sprite with the water pitcher. at this point we just wanted to leave but our server had other plans i’m assuming because we watched him for 15 minutes sit on his phone in the restaurant playing games. when he finally noticed that we were done he tossed the check down on the table and walked away. i made sure to take a picture of the check because i wanted to know who this servers name was as he didn’t provide it at the beginning. we got up to leave and the host along with another server were sitting at the front table eating and the female server looked me up and down and gave me a dirty look and the host just said “bye” so we made sure to say “bye thank you” because we both work in the restaurant business and we know what good and bad service are. i try to give a lot of leniency when it comes to bad service because i 100% understand but we were Fortinos only table so we shouldn’t have had to deal with bad service especially when there was only 1 other table in the whole restaurant. i will be back because the food was great but i hope i get a different server...

Stopped by one afternoon with the wife cause we were in the area and she told me it was her co workers liked the place. We stopped in on taco day, not sure if it was a Tuesday or not. It was also featured on an app my wife had. Menu on the app featured a few tacos to try out, looked good on her phone. So we went in and was greeted right away from the hostess, it was an odd hour so workers may have been taking turns getting guests at the door. Once we sat down it took 7 minutes for our waiter to get a drink order, And another 5 to get it there. 12 minutes to get a drink when the was literally 3 other tables in the restaurant was a little long in my opinion. So the waiter can back to get our food order and my wife mentioned about it being taco day. Waiter mentioned he had to go get another menu as it was listed there, but failed to mention taco day at all till we asked. Minus points again. He had a rushed feel about him and not very welcoming personality. I get it. Cannot always be on your a game all the time. He definitely was not. When we got the tacos it was good but not what I was expecting. The tortillas were cold and the portions inside were Luke warm at best. To be fair, I may be expecting a little much from places I try out since I used to be a chef and have practically worked every job there is in a restaurant, so I know what to look for. Plus I have worked in some of the finest restaurants in Houston, so I can't expect every place to get a plus service. Also I'm Hispanic and I know a good taco when I have one. My body is built on tacos. Overall the place had a nice ambience, the food was ok but I really didn't care for the waiter. I know it's not fine dining but everyone should feel welcomed in any place you go eat. Il give it another try if I'm ever on that side of town again, could have been an off day for the crew...

Normally this location is great. For some reason this last Saturday it was not great. We got the guacamole which says it is made table side. Our waiter made it at a different table, put the leftovers in another bowl and sat it at our table. it was also flavorless and had big chunks of avocado still and pieces of onion. Couldn't taste any salt or lime. Our food came out extremely fast (not that that's bad, but it was like they were trying to hurry us out of there), and half of my friends plates came first and then the other half came like 5 minutes later. Could have just waited until they had all the food ready? I got the Caesar salad which says it is mixed table side. Sort of. The waiter threw all the ingredients inside and then dumped the ingredients into the serving bowl upside down. so it was not mixed at all, just an upside down salad.
