Stavros & Sons is a popular Italian, Greek and pizzeria restaurant in Fruitland Park, Florida. It has a way of packing customers in, year after year. Stavros serves huge portions of authentic Italian and Greek foods, so you may need to take home a doggie bag.
My family has travelled a number of times 30 miles to eat at Stavros, which has become a tradition when we were all together to visit our mother and a sister in Florida.
My favorite item is the bubbling hot, homemade lasagne that is bursting with flavor. It is almost a double portion and it comes with a side of Greek salad and tasty garlic bread.
Stavros is often packed at nights during the busy winter months, and you may have to wait 10 minutes or more until a table becomes available.
There seems to be mainly an older crowd (children are welcome) of local Floridians mixed with snowbirds from up North.
I suspect a lot of diners are from The Villages, the world's largest retirement community for people 55 and older, located 10 miles away from Stravos.
Don't miss eating here. It can be a bit noisy because the popular restaurant is almost always full and is not huge.
My only complaint is that when ordering ice tea, the waitress filled my glass with far too much ice. Just tell your waitress that you want only a few ice cubes.
Once seated and after you peruse the menu, you won't have to wait long for your waitress to take the orders. Depending upon what you order, you’ll have your meals in no more than 15 minutes.
Stavros is a great place to eat and it is reasonably priced, yet like everywhere else, persistent inflation has forced the prices to be slightly increased. Nevertheless, it is a bargain considering the quality and generous amounts of the foods served.
It is almost worth flying down to Florida to eat at this Stavros. There is ample free parking outside. Credit and debit cards are accepted, and Stravos is air-conditioned. All the waitresses and waiter are fast, polite and unobtrusive.
Wines and beers are available by the pitcher, glass, carafe or bottle. Ice teas, sodas and mineral waters are also available.

Very good food. Prices have gone up, as they’ve gone up everywhere. This said -the side salad (VERY GOOD) has nearly doubled in price -but you get half the amount. The salads used to be generously PACKED and mounded in little bowls. Now they’re more tossed (not packed down) with noticeably less meat, cheese, lettuce, etc. For double the price and half the amount -I was really disappointed and probably will not get again. The sandwich we got was AMAZING, as was the garlic butter ziti.
Update 2022
Pros: good food and friendly employees. Cons: we waited awhile after sitting to get menus/welcomed. The restaurant only had 3 tables occupied and staff saw us, but were visiting with other tables. My water wasn't refreshed (I ran out about halfway through), and we were charged extra when I asked for more bread (we didn't get much bread initially, we'd never been charged in the past when requesting more, and we were not informed there would be a charge). All this said, it's one of my parents' fav restaurants and it's very good. I highly recommend the salad and meatballs with cheese if you’re low carb/keto. I was just a smidge disappointed today.
My parents adore this place! It is a super delish Italian restaurant owned by a super adorable Greek family. The pastas are amazing -I love their red sauce. Their salads are also delish -a Greek salad dressed with a vinaigrette, cheese, oregano, and thinly sliced ham and salami. I deviated today and got a gyro, which was a bit of a disappointment. Red onions were missing, there were only 2 small tomato slices, and the meat was wet, limp and mass produced. I was a little surprised as everything else I’ve had here is so good! The restaurant was clean and staff were, as always,...
Read moreThis was our second Stavros and Sons in Fruitland Park. (Our first visit was to satisfy a craving for pizza, and this restaurant came highly recommended.) On the second visit, we decided to experiment a little bit and we ordered the stromboli, and knowing that we were going to share it, we ordered the large size. CAUTION – when they say large, they mean large. This Stromboli was enough to overfeed each of us for lunch, and we still have a little more than half of it to take home. Absolutely brilliant work in the kitchen: the crust was novel, crisp, and a little sweet. The interior was loaded with delectable onions, sliced green bell peppers, cheeses, a variety of meats and sausage, and delectable seasonings. I think we were both impressed: this is a great meal, and it was a good bargain - including a draft beer, a Coca-Cola, and hot coffee the entire bill came to $31.30. We paid $40 (including tip), which is a bargain in today’s luncheon marketplace. There was plenty of parking close to the front door, the air conditioning system was working well, and the booth was comfortable. Our server, Adam, was very attentive to our needs, and he was clearly very busy since the restaurant had only a few booths open at the time. Since Adam is the customer contact person who we see as representing the restaurant, he certainly leaves customers with a favorable impression of Stavros. (Atmosphere was noisy for me, but I put my hearing aids on noise-cancellation and Viola! Instant quiet!) Photo is of the more than 50% remaining of the large Stromboli after both of us had eaten our fill, plus a...
