My girlfriend and I have been eating here for the past 4 years now and the food and service have always been good. Yes there have been times when the sushi or rolls have been prepared different from how they are described on the menu but never have we experienced disappointment in the food. However last night, 3/6/2020, the Volcano rolls, and Big Daddy roll, and 2 orders of Sake that her and I ordered were not at all what we have been used to getting. First problem, the rolls were warm, not even room temperature but just warm. The Big Daddy roll was not prepared the way it was described on the menu, and honestly just looked thrown together quickly. As for the Volcano rolls, they looked very different and the taste of them was not good at all. The crab that is put on top of the roll looked like it was put through a cheese grater and was 100% imitation crab. The Siracha was just thrown on top and the overall appearance of these 2 volcano rolls looked as if they had just been thrown together quickly. I could not eat mine because the flavor was not right, the imitation crab completely ruined it for me, luckily i had ordered a beef bowl too. As for the Sake we ordered, 3 of the 4 pieces we received were cold and edible, the other piece was warm and just didn't taste right, probably cause it was warm. I believe that the 3 of the 4 pieces of Sake we received had been pre-made and put in a fridge to keep cool and that the other piece had been made after the Sake had been sitting out in room temperature. Also the beef bowl I ordered was good and i ate most of it, but seemed to have upset my stomach very badly, or maybe it was the Volcano roll and Sake that upset my stomach, either way we paid to eat good food and that is not what we got.
Our waitress seemed to be new but I expressed my concerns and problems and she did her best to make it right. As for the staff working at the Sushi station I believe they were already cleaning up and getting ready to shutdown for the night and that is why the food we received was poorly made and tasted awful. That is not an excuse for having the food that we had. I have been eating Sushi for over 20 years and I understand that when a State is either landlocked or far from an ocean to get fresh seafood it is hard to keep good stock on hand, but to me it seemed like maybe are trying to cut corners and make more money for less quality food, maybe they have new owners or a new manager, I don't know, the point is your customer are what keep your business going so cheating them to make a little more money is just not good business practice.
Unfortunately, it will be a very long time before we eat at Ogawa's again, that is...

I ordered a tuna roll, built my own sushi roll (because their house sushi menu/selection was a disaster), and a small mafa chicken bowl. To start, the tuna roll was not traditional. It was rolled with the rice on the outside and had sesame seeds. Anyone who has an ounce of sushi experience knows that this should have been a simple roll with the nori on the outside with rice and tuna inside. The roll was cut into 10 pieces, very thin. Disappointed, 3.5/10.
Then, I made/ordered my own roll with shrimp, cream cheese, cucumber inside, with salmon on top sauces with eel sauce and spicy mayo. It was nice to see that they offer to create your own, but the execution ruined it. Hardly any cream cheese inside, loosely wrapped by what seemed that could have been done a better job by a toddler, then topped with a generous portion of thick sliced salmon. Ok, I get it, probably never made this request before so there was a learning curve. But then, it was cut into 6 ginormous pieces, all different sizes. It was sloppy. It should have been formed and cut into symmetrical, bite sized pieces (at least the standard 8 cut) 4.3/10.
As for the mafa chicken bowl, it was great. Good portion, tasty, and probably the only menu item that this restaurant does well. 8.3/10.
The mafa chicken bowl wasn’t finished, so I asked for a box. No problem, but conveniently snuck a .75 cent surcharge on my bill saying “TO-GO”, laughable but ok.
But then the final straw, my bill had some fine print stating that an additional 3.5% surcharge was automatically applied to the entire order for use of a credit/debit card. But don’t worry, they offer to take that off if you pay in cash or use a pre-purchased gift card. Nowhere did I see this posted anywhere, or was advised before I ordered. Now 3.5% is marginal, I know, but it’s the principal to inform the customer in advance that counts and I feel like it’s an unethical thing to do.
I wont be spending any of my hard earned money here, and will strongly advocate to others to avoid this restaurant like the plague.
Advice: Hire/train some legitimate sushi chefs, and humble yourselves on the product you put out by compensating on the price you charge. Don’t try and be something you’re not, which is definitely not in the category of “a good place...
Read moreI have been a customer of Ogawa’s for over four years. This was one of my favorite restaurants in the valley until today. We were seated and immediately ordered after our drinks were written down. We then proceeded to wait around an hour and a half total for our food with no comment from our server. When my sister tried to get the attention of the server by making eye contact, waving, and talking, the server immoderately turned around. Giving her the benefit of the doubt I assumed possibly that she did not see us trying to get her attention. We waited so long that a bus boy came and asked us if we wanted him to take the stacked up plates on our table to which we replied “we actually haven’t eaten yet”. He was kind and went to check on our order. About 10 minutes later when we received our order of fried sushi rolls they were cold. Disappointed with service that we have never before received from Ogawa’s we asked to speak with the manger. We ended up talking with the owner and she immediately began talking over me while I was still trying to explain to her in a calm, polite, and respectful manner about our situation. This resulted in us both talking at the same time for at least 10 seconds. She did not care about our experience at all. She tried to say “you’re eating sushi today correct? Sushi is served cold” to which I replied I have been getting the fried Tabitha roll from your restaurant for years and it has always been warm. Hence why it is a fried roll. She had no reply to this. She made it seem as if we were trying to rip her off to get a discount. We did not go in to the restaurant with a mindset of “we will get a discount on our food”. We simply wanted the great service and quality food that we had received before. Unfortunately today with the way that we were treated I do not know if I will be able to return to Ogawa’s. Regardless of our age, we wish to be treated fairly and with the same respect as any...
