Since MJ (Not Michael Jackson or Michael Jordan as he likes to say - but Min Jin) felt compelled to solicit my review twice during our meal, here it is.
Seared Salmon (Had a really good creamy sauce) Cuts fish as it's ordered and not precut Honest menu, Escolar is labeled Escolar and not disguised as Ono or White Tuna Good fish to rice ratio
Ikura is 1 order per person even though everywhere else has it on the AYCE menu (ok tasting ikura by AYCE standards) Drinks were constantly empty Empty plates were constantly left at table and not taken away The complimentary dessert others have mentioned was not complimentary and required multiple reviews Servers were not attentive even though restaurant was close to empty Server solicited our reviews not once but twice
Our party of 5 arrived at Sushi Pop at 12:30 for lunch. The place only had 3 other tables with 2 servers running around. The orders came out fast and the food was on par with any other AYCE sushi restaurant. Where this restaurant really screws up is their servers and their managements strategy for soliciting reviews for yelp.
From the get go MJ was not very attentive and felt distracted by something else. As the food was coming out and we were finishing up the food on the table, the plates were just left there. Even when the runners/server brought the food they just looked at us to make room. We stacked the empty plates for them, they plop the food down and walk away leaving the empty plates. We had to asked them to take the plates. There was not one time the server had filled our water without us flagging him down, which was difficult to do. I'm not expecting incredible service when coming to an AYCE but the basics of busing the tables and filling my empty drinks seems to be required. When MJ would drop by, he would give us his spiel about his name, make small talk and then give us a story about how he could help us out and give us free dessert. We first would have to write a review on yelp and show him. Very awkward conversation and transaction but one of us reluctantly obliged given the awkward position we were placed in. After enjoying our meal some more and some time later MJ comes back and informs us that the manager wouldn't be able to give us all free dessert (1 scoop of ice cream), he was only going to be able to give us 3 but the in order for us to get the other 2 we would have to write another review and show him. We refused but he insisted. Again, very awkward and unwanted solicitation when we're paying customers enjoying a meal.
At the end they did give us 3 scoops for our one review, three small scoops of ice cream in one glass with ice cubes and whip cream. Picture below.
The rise of businesses soliciting reviews really leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Especially when it's the server coming up to your table and try to sell you on writing a review - think people showing up at your door trying to sell you something... except you're a paying customer and shouldn't have to deal with this.
Business owner: If you have good food and good service you'll get good reviews. Have your servers focus on their jobs instead of focusing on soliciting reviews the entire meal. In a time where AYCE Sushi has become a dime a dozen you want to stand out and be different, unfortunately you've stood out in the worst...
Read moreIncredibly Disappointing! I decided to come here with my gf. We came in once before for lunch and had a good time. When we checked in, the guy in the front told us it's a 20 minute wait (which isn't a big deal). Group by group people were seated. Until finally a two seat table opened up. I checked the time exactly 20 minutes, I smile to myself. I see a staff member clean it and set it. I wait for the guy who took my name down to call me, but he doesn't. He seems to be avoiding me and my gf not saying a single word everytime he passes us. Finally after an additional 5 minutes I go to the counter and ask when we would be seated because we have been waiting and there's an empty table. His response verbatim "We are behind and even if we seated you, you wouldn't get your food" I was floored by his response.
Why would you quote 20min and lie about it?
Why would you not ask us to sit since we have been sitting for the last 30min?
Why would you have such an unprofessional and rude response?
After that my gf and I left. I will never return to this place again and will never recommend it to anyone. It's a bit overpriced and the customer service...
Read moreOmg...where do I begin. I came to visit Mt daughter and she wanted sushi...I found this place on yelp of course and after reading the reviews we decided to try it.
AMAZING. .
My daughter ordered the baked lobster roll at 15.95 and the Hawaiian roll was 14.95.
I had the lunch special with grilled teriyaki chicken 14.95.
The lobster roll was absolutely divine. It had so much lobster on it...the flavor was amazing. It was fresh and very inviting. I would order this many times over.
We loved the Hawaiin roll too. I do not like raw fish...but my daughter had me try this and what a treat. It was so fresh and wonderful. The inside has crab meat and avocado. It just might convince me to eat raw fish once in a while.
My lunch special was good. The miso soup...absolutely delicious. I live miso soup and this did not disappoint.
The tempura was light and wonderful and the dipping dance was a great addition.
The chicken was so good with the teriyaki sauce..it was hot and fresh with some sesame seeds on top.
I would for sure order this again.
If you love fresh sushi...this place will...
