For our town of Fuquay-Varina, NC, it became time to add more breakfast, brunch, and lunch-only restaurants. And with Famous Toastery just opening, many of us were glad to see that happen.
But how did everything taste? Quite simply - everything we ordered was superb, with much flavor (without any greasiness, or flavors of other foods cooked on the same grill).
Aesthetically, the inside looks like many other contemporary designs - that is high ceilings, with the acoustics being sort of loud when filled to capacity. I think they may need to add a few more decorative items to make the interior exude more of a warmer atmosphere, but that's just my opinion.
Food-wise, I was very pleasantly surprised, and I must say that this place is a noticeable step-up from all the other Breakfast-only places we've seen in our area. If you're trying to compare prices, the Famous Toastery prices are just a bit more than places like the Eggs Up Grill.
Several things immediately caught my attention, and they were:
The coffee they serve is from Lavazza, an Italian gourmet coffee brand, so that was really good.
When you order pancakes or French toast or waffles, the syrup they give you is real Vermont/Canada maple syrup, served to you in a warmed-up bottle. There are no imitations (that look and feel like varnish), nor do they give you those little packets that you have to peel off the aluminum top wrapping. Just ole' fashioned real maple syrup - what a refreshing surprise!
The orange juice is real - and squeezed right there when you order. They have a machine there that when you order orange juice, they throw the oranges in on the top end, and they are squeezed to produce real fresh juice, complete with some pump. From what they said, it takes 8–9 oranges to produce a glass. It immediately hits you at how wonderful it is to taste freshly squeezed juice.
I ordered a breakfast containing eggs (scrambled), sausage, and stuffed French toast (you have a choice of stuffings - I choose the vanilla cream cheese with strawberries). Everything was superbly (and cleanly) prepared, and the flavors were superior to what I had been accustomed to when dining at most other breakfast/lunch-only establishments. And just to be clear, my wife and I are "Foodies," and we get very particular about where we eat.
So when all was said and done, my wife and I left with a smile on our faces, and since we live in that general area (near the Kohl's shopping center where this Famous Toastery is located), we definitely will be making more trips there for either breakfast or lunch.
Thus, my highest recommendation of 5 stars. Now look, I realize that any reviews are subjective in nature. When it comes to restaurants, all we can do is to recommend something that we feel is very good - and then you do the rest upon following those recommendations. If you love the place - great! However, if you don't, that's the way things...
Read moreI visited this place because it was new and wanted to see how it compared to its direct competition down the street. Don’t waste your time like I did. I seated myself, was greeted promptly, and upon reviewing the menu decided to try their shrimp and grits, a dish I quite enjoy. I had eaten this dish at the place down the street several times, so I knew the dish and its price point. The first thing I noticed was that the price at the Toastery was over $2 higher than their competitors. Second, the dish did not come with eggs or any garlic toast, just shrimp and grits. And shrimps and grits was what I got. The Toastery’s shrimp and grits consisted of five boiled jumbo shrimp, six small pieces of smoked sausage that had no smoke flavor, all dumped in a bowl of cheese grits. Shrimp and grits is a traditional southern dish. It has peppers, onions, andouille sausage, and lots of Cajun flavor. The crap I was served didn’t even have salt. It was bland, flavorless, and extremely unappetizing. I took two bites of the grits, and ate one shrimp and sent it back. To the manager’s credit, I was not charged for the dish and was in and out in under twenty minutes and on my way to the place down the street. There I got shrimp and grits that had peppers and onions, andouille sausage, lots of flavor, and two eggs. Did I mention I also paid $2 less? Don’t waste your time with the not so famous Toastery. Just go to the place down the street where you’ll get great food, great service, and a...
Read moreJust had breakfast at the Toastery in Fuquay and while it wasn't necessarily bad it wasn't that good either... I'll start with the Pros.... No wait time. Saturday at 11am and Seated immediately unlike eggs up which is usually a minimum wait time of 45 min. Our waitress was quick and efficient. The coffee was very good if that's important to you...Not to strong but not weak either. Now the Cons.... If your sensitive to loud noises I would advise against. The high open ceilings amplify everything! I'm not hard of hearing but I had to really concentrate on what my wife was saying to hear her. The table we were at was very small even for 2 people...like 2' X 2'. The food wasn't bad just not good. I had the southwestern omelet ( I didn't take pics because I didn't know I was going to review) A bit bland for something with peppers and chorizo. No Presentation or garnish just plain dry looking eggs with a scoop of potatoes... My wife had the spinach and goat cheese omelet that she said was good. But she didn't finish it which she normally does if the portion isn't too big.. The prices weren't too bad, maybe $1-2 more than eggs up but within range of everywhere else... overall I don't plan on going back, I'll wait the 45 min at eggs up... Sorry Toastery but your gonna have to up...
