El Sombrero Restaurant — Restaurant in Gallup

I grew up here in Gallup New Mexico in my younger years. This restaurant here was my mother’s favorite place to eat. Rip mom 🙏🏼 anyway, she would always bring me here to have lunch or dinner so, I decided to travel from Phoenix Az all the way to Gallup New Mexico w my wife and sissy to eat here and enjoy some Authentic Mexican Food. It was my wife’s first time coming to Gallup.. we all ordered the green chile stuffed sopapillas and a side of sopapillas to enjoy w some honey. Wifey loved it and sissy and I did as well. It was worth the trip. If any of you want to try some real Mexican food w some real New Mexico hatch green Chile then this is the town and this would be the restaurant.. our dishes were huge.. I mean we didn’t even make it half way through our sopapillas and we had to get To-Go boxes haha… delicious thank you for such wonderful service and the best food we’ve had in a really long time. I always loved to eat here, and Gallup has some really good choices of restaurants. El Sombero was one of those restaurants we have been going to for years. We had dinner and ordered the stuff sopapilla plate. I'm sorry to say it is not the same as it used to be. I was disappointed all the meat and flavor was at the top part of the sopapilla. About 80% was just beans, I like beans but I could not eat the rest and usually I devour it. The service was on point, but the waitress just zooms by only to ask if everything was OK. She could have taken her time and waited to see if our meal was good, but we just paid and took our beans with us. I always recommend this place, but I guess it was late in the evening, and we just got all the beans that were left over. I'm sorry, El Sombero, but this restaurant is no longer my favorite. I spent over $50 hard earn dollars, and all I enjoyed was the salsa, so now me, my family, and friends will not be...

I wanted to call in an order. I called, a girl answered. I asked to place an order and she said what!!!. I said may I place an order. She said do you want. I said okay then. She said something under her voice and guess what She was so rude and hung up on me. Lucky me I was outside in the parking lot. I didnt say anything to the waitress about the incident earlier but I went in to order our food,5 plates 4 of the same items and a kids burger. The cashier rang us up but did not give us a receipt at that time. We waited 20 mins. We paid 110. Crazy I thought turns out the waitress tipped herself 10 extra dollars. Plus what we tipped her. (Talk about a scam) At that she never put in the chips and salsa she said she would , no ice in Ice tea, salad was gross and just disappointed in the service. Downgraded for sure.
