My boyfriend, my mom and I are traveling back to California from Texas, and we stopped tonight in Gallup. We were hungry and since one person wanted soup, one wanted salad, this seemed like a great choice.
We get there and the wait is 10 to 15 minutes, which is completely understandable and expected. We wait and are seated, and then we wait to be greeted by our server, and then wait for our very simple drink order (water all around), and then we order, and we wait and we wait, and then one of the other servers is going very fast realizes she forgot something and turns around to get it, and one of the cups she is carrying spills all over my mom. Thankfully it's just water.
Several members of staff (including one who i think was the manager) check on her and us, but no one really apologizes. And we wait at least five more minutes and we finally get our food.
My mom ordered the chicken pot pie, which came out looking amazing, but had so many peas and huge chunks of carrot in it, I'm not really sure how it could be called chicken pot pie. My boyfriend ordered the haddock with mashed potatoes, hashbrowns, and fried okra. Potatoes tasted like they were from KFC except they had skins in, brown gravy tasted like it also was from KFC, fried okra was not the best he'd ever had, nor was it the worst, and sadly he was so tired he couldn't enjoy his fish which was good. I ordered the homestyle crispy chicken salad, which came correctly made, the chicken was excellent, crispy flavorful breading, tender juicy chicken breast, the cucumbers looked great if a tad thicker than I like them cut, I'm not a fan of tomatoes so I picked them off. My complaint with my salad is that the lettuce was giant pieces which makes it hard to eat, and the dressing didn't actually taste homemade.
Oh, and i had to ask twice for a refill on my water.
And then we get our check and despite not being jerky customers making a big deal about being spilled on, there is no discount on our check, I would have been fine with a 10% discount which would have been about 3.50, but there was nothing.
This was my first time at a cracker barrel and I will not be returning. The prices are good for the portions you receive, but the food quality is disappointing, and so was this location's...
Read moreMy wife and I were returning from CA to TX and stopped at the Cracker Barrel in Gallup NM. We were denied service surrounded by a large number of customers because my service dog was in a small stroller. The assistant manager stated "I don't believe the ADA act requires us to let you bring your dog in a stroller". There were both baby strollers and a wheel chair in plain view of the hostess desk. I have had a service dog for 7 years that must be with me at all times and this is the first time I've ever had a problem being served. The experience was embarrassing and humiliating. The US Adults With Disabilities Act states that businesses MAY NOT DISCRIMINATE AGAINST disabled persons with service animals and service animals must be allowed to accompany people with disabilities in all areas of the facility where the public is allowed to go and no services normally offered may be denied. The animal is required to be tethered in some fashion (mine was tethered in a a stroller). I told the manager he was violating federal law and he said, "I'll take my chances". I immediately filed a complaint with Cracker Barrel's guest relations online. I promptly received an email back saying they would get back to me within five days. It has now been 9 days and "crickets". I know Cracker Barrel has had discrimination problems in the past. You would think they would learn...
Read moreArrived for dinner at 5:44 p.m. was seated right away. Waiter came over to get drink order which was 2 glasses of water and 1 coffee. Took awhile to get. He came back and took our order. I ordered just sides, which one was the house side salad that was listed in the same area as the regular sides not the premium. I asked for extra dressing and did not get it until I was almost done with my salad. I also asked for biscuit that comes with the meal. When the server brought the rest of the food he told us it would be a few minutes for the biscuit as they where making a fresh batch, ok with that. Waiter asked if we would like refills on drinks, my husband asked for a refill on his coffee as they had not refilled it at all. Now we are finished eating and the Waiter comes with the check and asked if we still wanted biscuit and a refill on coffee, we said no. In the meantime other tables where getting biscuit. I looked at the bill and noticed I was charged $2.50 for my salad. I asked about it when I paid the bill. Manager was called, let him know he said for the veggie the house salad was extra, I asked why was it with the regular items and not the premium? He could not answer. Instead of just taking it off, he asked me if I wanted him to. It should have just been...
