I and coworkers had to drive to Gallup, New Mexico for work and I personally had a horrible experience with them! It started off with me checking in at 3:30 in the morning on a Thursday when they asked me for my credit card and when I told them that the rooms had already been paid for in advance they told me that it was for incidentals and I understood that... but when I received two LOUD phone calls around 6:00 in the morning (I say twice because I ignored the first one) telling me that my card was declined for one of the rooms and that they needed for me to go down and fix it. I of course was groggy and confused and told them that I would go down later to fix it and them telling me that, that was fine. So I went back to bed BUT NOOOOOO, I then received another call but I decided to ignore it because I was extremely tried and not 5 minutes later someone came knocking on my door to tell me that they were leaving and for me to fix it with the next person in shift. Was it really necessary for them to tell me that? I really don't think so! I went back to bed, mad but I managed to fall back asleep. Not too much time passed till another person came knocking on my door to ask me if I was checking out that day when it was clear that I wasn't to check out till Saturday. After that there was just no point in trying to fall back asleep so I got ready and went down to the front to fix this nonsense. I told them that these rooms had already been paid for in advance and that a credit card authorization form was faxed to them. They told me that they received it and covered some of the rooms but for some reason wasn't covering two of the rooms. I told them to use that same card for those rooms and they agreed but when they couldn't find the form and needed me to get someone to re fax it to them I got even more impatient with them. Because not only that, they had already charged my personal card for the rooms and couldn't credit me back until they received the form. So I had to wait for the form to fax and then had to wait around for them to credit my money back to my account so I could could get out and spend some money to eat and what not but it didn't happen till 7:00pm by then it was already too late. I had, had it by then so I decided to check out that night and drive back home where no one would wake me up.
Sadly that wasn't the only thing that happened, my coworkers stayed till Saturday and every night they had to go to the front desk to get their room keys reactivated because the keys wouldn't open their rooms. They had been working at a site all day and all they wanted to do was go to their rooms and get some rest after a long day...
Read moreHow the heck did this place ever get a five star review? I gave it two stars because the staff was nice.
They have an entrance where you go through the automatic doors and then a second set of automatic doors. During my visit there was a transient who had peed himself sitting on the luggage cart in that entrance area with a police officer talking to him. Don't know what happened to him but thanks for stinking the place up.
We're off to a great start.
The room was kinda gross. Not because it hadn't been cleaned but it's a really old pet friendly place. It's just well worn and on the verge of being completely worn out and needing to be shut down. Door didn't shut/secure properly, cracked sink, loose & stained caulking in the tub, rusty showerhead. Maybe I was just issued a cruddy room because we had a dog, dunno. If I had to guess, the carpet was installed in the early 90's and never cleaned.
There are an inordinately high number of homeless people everywhere around this place. Doesn't make a family feel very safe. I went through the drive thru of a nearby burger place and was incessantly pestered by a transient camped out by the drive thru speaker box. When I stopped for coffee the next morning, same thing. When I got gas, same thing. As a matter of fact, all of New Mexico along the I-40 was depressing. The poverty throughout our drive in New Mexico was overwhelming. The land of enchantment is anything but enchanting from the highway. The views from I-10 were better on our return trip, and felt safer.
Maybe I should have stayed in Albuquerque. On my next trip I plan to jump from Amarillo to Flagstaff, just so I don't have to spend the night...
Read moreWe got in about 8:30. The night manager was very nice. The first bad thing was the price. I should have booked it through AAA first, that was my fault. But she was charging me an extra 20 bucks when I could book the room online on their website for 109. So I told her I would book it online, and she changed the price. Then I wanted to pay cash. Okay, there was a $100 dollar cash deposit, as well as you have to give your credit card. So I paid for the room, gave them cash, AND they charged my card, still pending of course. She told me they just needed it "on file." Well, it made those funds unavailable for me because it is "pending." I should have just used my card.
Okay, so now on to the room. The first room we got, the card key did not work. So after a few minutes, we get another room. The card key worked like 1 out of 15 times you put it in the door. The door to the room was difficult to shut. I had to slam it every time. The bathroom door did not lock, but it did kind of latch shut. The room was very nice, and clean, so I thought. There was something wrong with the lights and the TV. Someone switched the plugs so when you turned off the light switch at the door, all the TV stuff turned off. I had to figure that out. The breakfast was pretty good.
Now here is the worst part. I GOT BIT BY BED BUGS! We traveled from New Mexico to Texas. Was wondering if I got in a swarm of mosquitoes or something, but now are they going to bite my foot with my shoes on??? I HAVE 45 BITES, mainly on the right side, the side I sleep on. DON'T GO HERE!!!! My stay at the Red Roof Inn was way better!!!!! If I could give them Zero...
