Garden City has a new restaurant and banquet facility named AL Malek. Located at 28937 Warren Rd east of Middlebelt on the south side of Warren, and unrelated to any other restaurant with the same name. We walked in the front door to find a good mix of booths and tables. David, the owner, welcomed us at the door, asked about our desired seating, and quickly grabbed a high chair for the grand daughter. Within 30 seconds all 4 of us had menu's. Gorgeous, my gluten free wife, took charge over our ordering and went for the full deboned chicked with rice and the tabbouli salad without the wheat. The son went for the lentil soup knowing he was paying for his own meal and would have no problem attacking our meal, and daughter had the chicken salad. Breast milk for the grand daughter had already been consumed. For reference, the family loves middle eastern food and frequents several of the middle eastern restaurants across metro Detroit. I could mention the large portions but I can't say that without thinking I am understating the freshness of the food. I give them equal weight and describe both as excellent. All the food, for all of us, tasted fresh. Our server, Raky, filled our drinks without us having to ask, and Moe, the cook had the dishes completed quickly, looking delicious. Some purists may put their noses up because they did not have the oven warmed pita, but let me tempt you a bit...take the ambient room temperature pita out of the bag and dip it into the garlic tomme, dip, paste..whatever your family calls it, and tell me if it isn't one of the best in the city. For families in Metro Detroit, the garlic is what keeps us coming back. The deboned chicken arrived with a thicker sauce that was different than the normal spice only, but different in a good way. We enjoyed it, but ask them to put it on the side if it causes any anxiety. I did not tour the banquet facility, but after paying for several weddings, I have found the middle eastern option to be reasonable and highly satisfying. From beginning to end, no downsides at all. I would describe the restaurant interior as clean, with a unique wall coloring and framing that may be filled with unique middle eastern pieces as time goes by. Kudos to the AL Malek team, 9 days into a great start. As usual, I don't know anyone at this place other than meeting them today for the first time. I do not own, partner, or profit from this review in any way. The reason we came here was to visit our daughter and grand daughter and the first place we went to that had tables told us they were take-out only. My daughter said there was a middle eastern place having a grand opening just down the street, and that is how we got here. God bless...
Read moreI heard great things regarding to the food here from my brother, who lives not too far from them. I tried them for the first time today, and I must say, the chicken Fattoush salad that I had was superb! It’s delicious & you will not be disappointed! I look forward to ordering from them again in the future. I think I’ve now found my new favorite Mediterranean restaurant!
UPDATE: my initial review was taken in the beginning of 2024. On December 23, 2024, I was craving a chicken fattoush salad so I visited the restaurant after ordering the takeout by calling within a reasonable timeframe. It takes me a good 10 minutes to get here to pick up my food and then another 10 minutes to get home. So that’s 20 minutes of my time so I can eat on my lunch hour and return to work. So I don’t have time to go back and complain about my meal. Unfortunately, the takeout on this favorite salad this last time, the pita pieces and the lettuce were so mushy like it already sat a day! I opened the salad, the lettuce was no longer crispy and melded together. I Couldn’t eat this particular meal because it was so gross. I was so very disappointed! I won’t be back to this restaurant to order my favorite chicken fattoush salad. Please note, I typically order the large so I can eat some the next day. I will call for takeout when I’m on the way, so it doesn’t sit very long because this particular salad, cannot sit very long or it goes mushy. OK to deal with the mushy the next day cause it’s not so bad but if I let it go another day it’s just gross. This particular takeout sat a day or two before I got it. If you want people to like you and bring more people to enjoy your restaurant, don’t serve them crap for takeout. I won’t be back unfortunately. I even thought about coming in and then ordering right then in there to tell them hey I want a fresh salad. I shouldn’t even have to do that. The owner is super nice and I even hate leaving this bad update, but they need to know that serving old food on takeout will hurt in the...
Read moreThis just became my favorite restaurant! Everything is top notch. From cleanliness, to the hospitality, and the food!
My family and I were on the way to Dearborn to eat. As we were deciding where to eat, my husband told me he heard about this restaurant from an influencer, Diva Afaf.
We pulled in to this big beautiful building; big hall on one side and restaurant on the other. Before we were fully in the door, we were greeted in the most hospitable way by the owner, Mr. Hachem. He truly made us feel so welcome.
As soon as I walked in, I noticed how clean and nice everything is. The entire place is absolutely spotless. Even the bathrooms were very clean.
As we were being seated, our waitress came. She is one of the nicest people I met and her attentiveness was impeccable! She kept checking in on us and bringing us things without us even asking.
The owner was constantly checking in on us. So hospitable! He made sure we were well taken care of. He even offered to make me fresh juice to accommodate my allergies. The best juice I had in a long time too!
The menu is endless; so many options and varieties. My husband wanted kubee neye, which he is normally hesitant ordering from some restaurants. He could tell it would be good, so that's what he ordered.
When the food came out, we were so impressed. The presentation was amazing! The food was SO good, and the quality was excellent! I really enjoyed every bite. My son is a picky eater. I was so happy to see him eating and enjoying his food. We were even served dessert, compliments of the owner!
Everything exceeded my expectations. This is now my ultimate favorite restaurant. I can't wait to go again.
You can tell a lot of hard work, and love, is put into this restaurant. What an amazing group of people. I wish them nothing but the...
