EDIT: Updating from 1 star to 3 because within an hour of this review I was contacted by Jessica with an apology and a refund. She was also very willing to learn about what qualifies as vegan.
This place is pretty overwhelming! There are a couple steps just to get a smoothie. You have to choose an energy drink and a smoothie. I told the owner that I didn't do well with caffeine and she insisted I still get a low caffeine item so I did and just gave it to my fiance afterwards (who immediately got the jitters despite what she said about the energy drink not giving jitters). Then we asked if the smoothies contained milk products and she said "none of them have milk!" And then she asked if we were allergic or just sensitive to milk so I told her we were vegan and didn't consume any animal products. She then asked "how vegan are you?" First of all, what kind of a question is that?? Second, you SAID there was no milk in them and called all the protein "plant-based". She then said the smoothies have milk but no lactose so "I have strict vegans drinking this one anyway"... No you don't, don't lie just for business when we specifically say we don't consume milk. That is NOT vegan whatsoever. So then she said they have an allergen-free protein that uses pea protein and no whey, so we agreed to do that. She showed us the ones we could do the allergen-free powder in and we agreed to go for it. The smoothies were mediocre and the "low caffeine" energy drink tasted like cough syrup, definitely not worth $20 for two shakes. Then after we drank the smoothies I KNEW there were milk products in them. I was bloated and my stomach hurt since I haven't had milk products in a year. Then after the cups sat for an hour, the whey protein smell arose (which is a very particular smell that's impossible to miss). I am VERY upset and will...
Read moreI walked in wanting to buy a fresh fruit smoothie/juice and got an entirely different experience. The people were friendly. The kind of friendly they makes you wonder "what is it they want from me?". I couldn't pay without first giving my personal information like phone number, email address and first/last name. It definitely felt like I was walking into a pyramid scheme. I chalked off my suspicions as me just being antisocial that day and decided to still give this place a shot. I paid $20 for two drinks (one "smoothie" and one post workout type drink). It didn't hit me that this was NOT a fresh smoothie place until I saw my drinks being prepared. Everything was being poured from a package and there was not a single fresh item added to my drink.
As someone who takes nutrition seriously the fact that everything came from a package of powder was a huge huge turn off for me. Good nutrients are grown and don't come from a prepackaged powder. The shake itself taste like protein powder and was thick and chalky. The post work out drink taste like a zip fizz. Both items made my stomach hurt and I never got more than 1/4 way through the drinks.
There's nothing terrible about the people who work here and maybe even their products had they marketed to the right person. I gave them 2 stars because the verbage and marketing they use is not directed to their target audience and led to a poor experience for me. Something I feel compelled to warn others about.
I felt like I had been lured into a Herbalife party and after they requested my personal information before taking my payment, I'm sure I'll be getting an unsolicited phone call asking if I...
