Came here for some noodles on New Year's day. Noodles for longevity, right!? Overall food was pretty good, but my favorite part was the kimchi. Ordered two noodle dishes, the Jajangmyeon and the Jjamppong which are two Korean dishes I've had before, but not here. I will saw that these are two dishes that are somewhat nostalgic, since I've had them a good amount of times as a child. As with many dishes like that, there is a certain flavor I'm expecting. These two were not exactly that, but still pretty good in general. The Jajangmyeon (black bean noodle) has that really savory (slightly sweet) black bean sauce with the chewy noodles. If you have never had this dish, the dark color might scare you off, but give it a try, the flavor is not as intimidating as the overall look is. There's chopped up onions, other vegetables and small pieces of beef inside. The overall flavor was there, but I think it just needed that flavor more concentrated. The Jjamppong which is a spicy soup was comforting on a cold New Years morning. There's carrots, onions, zucchini, squid and shrimp in this one. It's not as spicy as it appears from the color and I'd actually enjoy it more if it had more spice. Along with that you get that "seafood" flavor, so if that's not your thing, be warned. I believe the noodles are the same type as in the Jajangmyeon. This is a Chinese/Korean restaurant, as opposed to solely Korean, and they only give out one banchan, the kimchi. I was actually surprised that it was so good. It's sweeter in flavor than usual and of course has the slight spice and sour pickled flavor. Got several refills of this one. It's a pretty basic designed place with lots of tables. There appeared to be many larger groups being accommodated for the holiday. Even though it was quite busy, service was quick and attentive. If you are looking for some of the best kimchi, along with the entrees, try this place out.

A favorite for well over 20 years, this family-run restaurant does Chinese cuisine originally designed to suit the tastebuds of Koreans. Don’t let that dissuade you from coming here as you’ll recognize many dishes. They have a wide ranging menu with plenty of choices of meats and seafood as well as vegetables. Famous for their jjajangmyun (black bean noodles), they’re a fixture in the heart of the Korean business district in Garden Grove. They make their noodles from scratch and the sauce has chunks of juicy pork that’s been sautéed with other vegetables. They now offer a small portion so you can easily add it on to another order like a lunch special, but I needed a full order to satisfy this craving from my childhood. The mandu (dumplings) can be served steamed or fried, but fried is the way to go for the light and crispy exterior. The vegetable and meat filling is wrapped by a chewy, doughy wrapper that doesn’t disappoint. Well-suited for larger groups, the interior dining room is often filled with people having various celebrations. Whether you’re close by or not, the effort to get here is worth its while!

I drive up from San Diego for this, and it's so worth it every time. 2019: Peking gourmet is delicious. As good as in Korea for sure. UPDATE 2020: yup, still delicious. Also, I saw no mention of this, so I will. PEOPLE, PLEASE TRY THEIR 간짜장. IT. IS. SO. DANG. GOOD. Change your life with 간짜장, you won't regret it. 😍 UPDATE 2021 (6/2021): this place is so good that updating my review over the years is almost becoming pointless.... BUT, I realized that last year I shouted out the 간짜장 without even posting a pic! I added a few more photos to help out my fellow noodle lovers. Eat your heart out guys. Leave some for me tho. *pro tip, ALWAYS get your sauce on the side for entree orders (pork, shrimps, etc) . Dip and go as you eat. This way, you get that crunch even during the 4th quarter of your meal. #winning #yourwelcome UPDATE 2022: Yup, still Yes. UPDATE 2023 (5/13/23): Stillllll yes! I came in just half an hour before closing due to traffic driving up from San Diego. But the owner and staff still greeted me with kindness, and my food was as AMAZING as always. Thank you guys

My hubby had the day off, and as my friend's mom used to say "It's too hot to cook!" So, we decided to venture out for Chinese food, only to discover our usual go-to restaurant was closed. Undeterred, I looked up alternatives online and found another restaurant whose menu featured appealing lunch specials, so I resolved to step outside my comfort zone and try something entirely new.

For years, I'd observed Asian diners enjoying bowls of noodles bathed in a rich, dark sauce. Due to my past experiences in a restrictive religious environment where blood was forbidden, I had always assumed this mysterious black sauce contained blood and steered clear of it entirely. However, since breaking free from those constraints, I've embraced a spirit of culinary adventure and decided it was finally time to try these intriguing black sauce noodles, Zhajiangmian.

What a revelation it turned out to be! My husband and I were absolutely delighted with our choice. We ordered two lunch specials along with a small bowl of the Zhajiangmian, which quickly became the star of our meal. The experience exceeded our expectations in every way: we were welcomed with complimentary kimchi and fresh jasmine tea, while every staff member who attended to us was genuinely warm and attentive.

The restaurant itself was immaculate and comfortably cool, bustling with satisfied diners who clearly knew what they were doing. Based on this wonderful first impression, I believe we've just discovered our new favorite Chinese restaurant. Sometimes the most rewarding experiences come from stepping beyond our preconceptions and embracing...

Awful. Used to go here 10 years ago. Same hostess. The caliber of the food was just pitiful. It was tasteless no Ginger no seasoning other than salt no soy sauce no heat flavorless. The worst part of all was that I specifically requested no MSG, as am allergic. My neck blew up as did my nausea and I had to work this evening. The food was loaded with MSG. Ordered; tofu and mushrooms, this was the most tasty of all the dishes however also loaded with MSG & incredibly salty with no flavor other than the flavor of the mushroom. Noodles black bean sauce: the noodles were one congealed Ness unseparateable, the black bean sauce in a separate container was a big glob of tasteless gelatinous awfulness. Shrimp in lobster sauce: the shrimp were melee the sauce was tasteless again too salty no flavor whatsoever other than a hint of lobster sauce seasoning, loaded with MSG. Wonton soup: totally tasteless salty broth no intact wontons completely dissolved and there was nothing in the ones on there was no chicken or pork or any sort of filling in the dumpling. Book choy type veg: this was just a tasteless salt lick, you couldn't even taste the vegetable.Kung Pao chicken: the little pieces of chicken worse lightly breaded too moist maybe three peanuts in the entire container and utterly tasteless with just a sprinkling of pieces of red cayenne pepper . Awful. Also tasteless except for salt. I am calling the place in the morning returning my leftover food want my money back ruined my night because I'm still nauseated sweating and I still have to work tonight the...
