We've been coming here nearly 2 years now. Really enjoy how friendly the owner is and remembers my husband each time, even if it's been months in-between.
Sometimes, I'll ask for recommendations and will try something different from my usual go-to's. This is how I learned about their lemon chicken, which I always try to save some for the next day; but end up eating the entire thing because it's so good. I also ventured out and tried the Ta Chen prawns which are now in my rotation whenever we order. I absolutely love their wonton soup, it's probably my #1 favorite thing that I get because it soothes my stomach, is filling and of course delicious.
They are always so generous in sometimes throwing in spring rolls for free or an extra soup. I like when there are some almond cookies lying around and they toss a few in with the fortune cookies as well.
Overall great service and food. The first time we ever ordered from here, a longtime customer was also waiting to pick up their food and had mentioned they've been coming here for years and that this restaurant would soon become one of our favorites....
Read moreI finally got to try Ta Chen. I read the reviews beforehand but I was between errands so I only got take out.
I got the sweet and sour pork lunch plate and ordered extra egg rolls and egg flower soup. You could tell it wasn't some frozen stuff that they warmed up and threw sauce over. The sauce was more sweet than sour but soy sauce fixes everything 😁. The pork was a little bit overcooked but cooked through so that's okay. The egg rolls were basic veggie and the egg flower soup was piping hot, the way I like it. I can't wait to go back for a proper sit down meal.
The restaurant reminds me of the old Chinese food places my parents would take us to in Hawaii wayyyy back when. No frills, no extravagance, just freshly made food eaten on Formica covered tables and upholstered benches. It's a tiny place but the woman that helped me was kind and may've been the owner. A good first time experience and alternative to the stuff they sell in those Chinese fast food places where everything tastes the same and...
Read moreThis was something of a mystery for us, we went here with high expectations based on the many favorable Google reviews, but the core ingredients were minimal flavor. The owner wanted to make sure we were satisfied. We tried the chow mein, orange chicken, fried rice, spring rolls, sweet and sour fish...I tried hard to like the offerings but my wife and kids disliked the taste. They repackaged the food but the lack of flavor was unchanged. They did give us a discount for dissatisfaction but I would not return as a tourist.
We have eaten at many Chinese restaurants over the years but extra salt, sugar or sauce cannot offset bland base ingredients. I should have taken the owner up on his...
