Just left the restaurant with my wife and kids in tow. Had to endure hip hop music the entire meal on Sunday afternoon with two other patrons. I have always found the food to be good quality and I have eaten there at least 10 times. But today, my 10 and 13 year old kids, who don't know the f-word, learned it as "I'm Glad I F-ing you Baby" played. Sorry, I guess my musical taste, not being porn, doesn't fit. The bulk of the music played for 30 minutes, all having the same directive. FYI, it's not a dive bar in Long Beach at 1 AM, its a family Japanese food joint, on the Lords day, at 3 PM. Hardly appropriate for anything but a brothel.
The wonderful Korean gents when confronted with the issue as my wife and kids were forced to leave, didn't give a rat sized morsel of crap about it. They simply turned the music off, no apology, no sorry, no forgive the indiscretion.... just "we turned it off". I had respect for Mika Sushi until today, believed that the owners and operators were outstanding business people...... NOPE. I suggest that you do NOT go to Mika Sushi, foods not superb, a bit over priced relative to really good sushi and tempura, the never friendly help are just that, never friendly.... I am wondering what kind of atmosphere they are shooting for. It's not about the music, it's all about the handling of the event.
I would hope that with that kind of treatment, none of YOU readers would further patronize such purveyors as you are only adding funding to the impressive display of unprofessionalism. If I treated my clients this way, I'd have none. A good business should be highlighted and boasted about, a bad business should be helped to change- or close.
PS.... I live a block away. I AM A LOCAL BUSINESSMAN, I am the...
Read moreThe sushi here is fair. The service definable needs work. My friend an I went there for lunch on a Thursday. Kept the orders simple. I got Sushi Combo A and she got Bento Lunch 3 item… they brought her miso soup and I decided I wanted a small salad. Drinks… 1 hot green tea & water. Mind you we placed our order as soon as they brought our drinks. We waited 30 minutes and they brought my order Sushi Combo. We asked for my friends order and it took them 15 minutes to tell it it was coming…. And only because we had to ask again. It seems they never placed her order. We had to ask them to put it to go because it was about to be an hour. Then they offered a 20% discount on her order only. And another waitress had already charged us the full price. Then another waiter took 10 minutes to bring us the 20% ($3) refund on her order. And we where still waiting for the food to go. I felt so bad I ended up paying for my friends lunch. Totally unacceptable. Also the place was not even that busy to begin with. Only giving it 2 stars because the sushi was fair. If we didn’t have this hiccup it would have been 3-4 stars. But how do you go eat and leave...
Read moreWe truly enjoyed our dinner here at Mika Sushi. When we arrived it was a very busy Friday evening and all the dining tables were full, so we sat at the sushi bar. The server was attentive and although there was a very boisterous couple who were next to us that were obviously regulars, we felt just as well serviced as they were. That's a huge feat to make new customers feel as special as the ones who know you by name. My daughter ordered two masago, we received one, but when we asked for the next one, the kind sushi chef, having watched her eat the first order, rolled the masago around some rice and left the nori off! We were amazed that he was so conscientious and observant. And then, to top it all off they graced us with a fried albacore dish that was mouth shatteringly delicious.
A warm, inviting, yummy, friendly place with a good selection of traditional and new sushi rolls. The bento combo is enough food to satisfy and everything was nicely flavored. They obviously change their frying oil every day because no yucky oily taste on their tempura.
Reasonable prices, easy parking, accessible store front! We will be back even though we...
