Baja California Cantina and Grill — Restaurant in Gardendale

Baja California is a Gardendale staple. The food is good, the service is good, the beer & margs are served cold! What else can you ask for?

My family and I have been here quite a few times over the last couple of years and always have a good experience. It's generally a pretty crowded place, particularly around dinner time but somehow we've never had to wait (as a party of 3). However I've seen people have to wait quite often.

This is one of those establishments where the host/hostess stand is in the same area as checkout, where payments take place after meals are complete. And all of this is directly in front of the one and only customer entrance/front door. Congestion isn't uncommon at all, but it's never been a deterrent for us, but heads up!

Again, the food is good. No frills, nothing fancy or over the top but everything they do, in my experience is done well! Classic Mexican cuisine. The dining room is very large with plenty of seating and there's even a small bar area with seating as well. Give it a shot... maybe you'll...

I WILL NEVER GO BACK. It was NOT crowded. The so-called hostess who seated me "never looked at me" nor did she smile. She never said a word to me. When she went to lead me to my table, I had gotten behind someone and could not keep up with her. By the time I see her again she was heading back to the front! I had to stop her and ask her where my table was. SHE POINTED to the table and still said nothing. It took 15 minutes before a server came. Another 10 minutes for my water. (No refills offered). 30 minutes for the food from the lunch menu. The waiter never came back to check on me. I had to stop another server for my ticket so that I could pay.

The food was ok, nothing special just typical Tex/Mex. Why they get 5 Stars baffles me. This was not my first time eating here either.

I truly want to like this place! They have great food, it’s affordable, and nice drink specials; however, out of a hand full of times dining in and getting to go orders, our food hasn’t been what we ordered. I NEVER GET MY CHEESE DIP WHEN ORDERING TO GO and most of the time if we ask for steak, we get chicken, or etc. The check out lady is rude. All in one night, I found a long hair in my meal and I found another hair in my cheese dip (that I finally got)—I repeat, IN THE SAME NIGHT!! That is enough to make me want to throw up! If this place could get it together, they would be the best around, because the food is awesome! Also, I spoke with whom I believed to be the owner about some of these problems (before posting this) and his only reply was sometimes we get it...
