Crazy Catfish Restaurant — Restaurant in Garland

Whew.... let me start by saying that any time I don’t see Cajun people frying the fish when I walk in, I get nervous. My nerves were right. Let’s start with the good stuff though. The technique of cooking the food was perfect! They know how to fry catfish, okra, oysters, and hushpuppies, which is what I ordered. The guy taking the order was nice, spoke pretty good English, so it didn’t take long for me to ask my questions and put my order in. The restaurant was okay on the cleanliness. There were lots of crumbs by the tables and some weren’t cleaned off. It wasn’t busy, as most people were getting their food to-go. The food took about 7-8 minute to come out and the food presentation was nice. But let’s get to the taste of the food. I want to preface this by saying that my family is from “Cajun country” Louisiana, so I consider myself a catfish connoisseur. This fish was SO bland, I went back up to the counter to ask if they had some seasoning. He proceeded to tell me that they only have salt and pepper. Huh? No onion powder, garlic powder? Or Tony’s? Or Lawry’s? It tastes like they fried the fish in bland cornmeal, not even the Louisiana fish fry corn meal, which would have helped out the flavor. The cooks need to go and be great and cook something they are good at because seasoning fish/seafood is not one of them. I would not recommend this place at the top of the fried catfish food chain. That’s just my two-piece. Yes I finished my $11 meal though....

I really wanted some Cajun food. Some good ol catfish and fried oysters maybe a side of red beans and rice. I settled for this place because it was affordable and close! Plus they had oysters which I love!!! Ummm not sure what all the hype is about but online pricing was different than when I got there and had already called in my order. I went during lunch and I counted off two people sitting and eating very quiet and couldn’t even smell fish. Fish looks ok from reviews so I tried it still. Let me just say everything must be fried together. Tastes like salt and pepper. Too much breading on oysters and you couldn’t chew them down enough to swallow period. Oysters aren’t meant to be chewed down but I know the flavor and texture I’ve gotten in the past and they were just horrible. Found bones in my fillet and they pile a bunch of salt less steak Fries. If it wasn’t for hot sauce and ketchup !!! I want to thank the owner and staff because they were very friendly but I’m tired of these places just opening up restaurants because they think all you have to do is deep fry. Be good and passionate about what your doing and do it well. Don’t think I’m interested in recommending or going back. I could cook fish at home and...

The lady at the register just could not get our order right! We ordered a whole catfish with okra instead of fries. I come in and she hands me catfish fillet with fries , and then charges me for okra in full like I ordered an extra side , when she already told me it would be and extra dollar to swap fries for okra. I then go back to tell her not my order , and she just STARES at me for a minute, so I stared back in silence. She then hands me my correct order with the okra in the box and tries to charge me again. Never coming here again bc the lady cannot count money , get orders correct , and barely speaks English , or she was acting . She ripped me off and the fish was not that good anyway.
