I was in town visiting a dear friend to help her plan her wedding and she recommended we order delivery from this place as she loves it and she knows I enjoy Indian food. It was a perfect fit for an easy Friday night dinner after a long day of travel!
I'm not sure if this restaurant offers delivery or if she just used DoorDash. And given that it was delivery, I can't speak to the atmosphere (the chandelier looks beautiful in photos though!) or the service, though I will say our order was correct and delivered quickly!
To accommodate all the bridesmaids and family members present, we got two orders of butter chicken, two orders of chicken tikka masala, one chicken josh, and one lamb rogan josh, with butter naan to share. About 6 cartons of rice came with our order.
Everything we got was solid! I tasted everything except the lamb -- not a huge fan of lamb. Portions were comparable to other Indian restaurants I've had carryout from in the past. Only one dish - the tikka masala - had even a hint of spice to it, even though I'm pretty sure my friend ordered everything at medium heat. Who knows, though, she might've asked for mild just to ensure everyone was comfortable. I did think the butter naan was a little on the dry side, but nothing a soak in some sauce couldn't fix.
Overall, I liked the tikka masala the best, then the chicken josh, then the butter chicken. Butter chicken was a little on the sweet side for me. Still, if I lived in the area, I would certainly keep this place in mind as a good option for...
Read moreMy husband (born and raised in India), our 16 month old son, and I dined here on Saturday 4/30. Here’s what we found:
We had a chicken starter marinaded in malai (I don’t remember the name!). It was tender, flavorful, and is served with a wonderful green chutney. The butter chicken was creamy and well seasoned. It was very tasty, nostalgic. My son loved this dish especially- he ate so much. Garlic naan was fluffy and cooked properly. My husband ordered the lamb dhamaka balti. This is a dish that is served in a balti, a bucket, and was described by the owner as being unique in that it uses much different spices than other curries. This dish was outstanding. I recommend to try any of the balti dishes; we enjoyed this so much we ordered an extra to-go. My husband wanted to be sure I added that this is the closest dish to North Indian dhaba food that he’s had in the states. I ordered ras malai and it was wonderful. Obviously homemade with a delicate rose water flavor. Delicious. My husband had mango pudding. He shared with my toddler, who was obsessed and ate half of it on his own. They had to have another bowl (and they finished that one too!)
We learned that all the spices are ground in house and everything made from scratch and you can seriously taste that. The service is organized, attentive, and super friendly. It’s obviously a small family business and they're doing everything right.
We had such a great experience at Tandoori Flame and we will be...
Read moreTexas has a pretty bad selection when it comes to Indian food. Having eaten at fantastic restaurants in New York and the UK, coming home is always a bit sad because the Indian food is so bland.
Tandoori Flame has changed that for me, at least mostly. I've only tried two dishes here so far but I always start with the Chicken Tikka Masala or Butter Chicken at a new Indian restaurant as a basic litmus test. They don't really have the former so I went with the Butter Chicken and it was awesome! Maybe not quite as good as some of the best I've had, but by Texas standards this place is simply great.
Large portion sizes of sauce, meat, rice, and naan, I always have a little leftover and I'm stuffed. The meat is curiously cut into long thin slices rather than the traditional cubes, not really a complaint just an observation. The Naan was generously sized but a bit too thin and crispy the first time, and perfect and fluffy second time so your mileage may vary.
The staff's English seems a bit weak but they're very friendly and helpful.
The establishment is a bit plain and lacking in personality, but it's very clean and spacious.
On a global scale this place would be a 4/5 for me, but living in Texas where finding good Indian food the last decade has been like finding water in a desert, this gets a 5/5 for me. Thank you for saving me from all of the other bad...
