The year was 1982. Ronald Reagan was still a new president, the USSR still existed, the Berlin wall was still separating families, ET had just won the hearts of millions, McDonalds had only served around 40 billion, and Friday the 13th only had 3 parts. I was just a youngin', but I always enjoyed the once-a-month or so dinner that Dad treated us to at Bali Hai on Wake Forest Road. Growing into adulthood in the late '80s, and one thing remained the same; dinner at Bali Hai at least once a month. Into the 1990s and 2000s, I was blessed enough to have a career close by, and this meant Bali Hai for not only dinner, but lunch at least once a week! I also was able to pass on the love of the Bali during this era to my children, who, like me, still find eating at Bali Hai a treat. For a few years after the original location burned down, my heart sank every time I thought of Bali Hai in the Raleigh area being gone, and this just made it even more special when we could find the time to drive all the way to Durham to enjoy the wonderful taste. After just a few meals you will find your favorite taste. For me, it's a combination 7 with curry. My son takes his a little cooler at a combo 5. If you don't like the flavors of the veggies and meats, then you have nobody to blame but yourself, since you are the one that picks out the amount and proportions of each. There are many imitators available now, and some are fine in a pinch (like on Sundays when the wonderful family who have owned Bali Hai since it's inception take a day off for religious worship) but none are equal. Thank you, Bali Hai for being a delicious part of my life for the...

Sooo let me say this, on the record, this dish right here bruhhh sooo gewd like economical eats, that’s my weakness😊😉 like imagine a place where it’s ayce (all you can eat) for bout $10 you can eat two bowls filled up with as much food (meats and veggies) you humanly fit into a regular dinner bowl🥵 I was a exercise and sport science major in college, but I was NASA dark matter atomic particle physicists come dinner time at Bali😎😤 yo like werd to my mother, this joint lit and delishish and did say cheap😋
They got that frozen thin sliced beef, chicken, turkey, and pork with the favs like potatoes, peppers, onions, and bean sprout etc. like dawgggg pls😫 I’m tryna lose that weight. They be grilling on a giant flat top just like they did in Mongolia -2k19 BCE🤨 the sauce is tangy, salty, sweat and sour plus spicy (if you bout it, can make it 10 like me, cuz I like to suffer while having fun)😏😏😏

Read moreUmmm what is this place? What kind of shell of a restaurant is this supposed to be? There is absolutely no interaction with anyone the moment you walk in the door. You better hope you know how to go down the line and add the stuff to your bowls yourself. Also, the meat is all weirdly frozen? I’ve been to many places like this and never seen frozen meat before. There are no sauces or really any green options on the bar for your dish. There are only bottled drinks from a small fridge. The tables seem to all seat 6 or more people and they are oddly arranged on one side of the room. The waiting area for to go food looks like the waiting area for a DMV. There is no music. There are ghost of hibachi past that loom behind the buffet. I honestly feel like this is the backrooms. All the food is packaged to go as well, and before you get your food you have to pay. Which is normal, I guess. The food was surprisingly good which kind of shocked me, but not more than the gentleman I watched pile up two trays full of almost the entire buffet. Umm, this was an experience. I won’t be back. But maybe...
