EDIT TO ADD IN RESPONSE TO THE MANAGER WHO WAS OUR SERVER: my mother didn't want to be rude as we were in a hurry and you were taking long enough to come to our table, however, if you would learn to look at plates to see that when most of it comes back to you, odds are, the customer likely did not enjoy the meal but did not feel comfortable with confronting you to say your food was not good, which is exactly what she was refusing to do. I did address the issue of the discrepancy. You didn't mention it would take 3 days. You just said if she could just do that so as to keep from having to mess with doing the refund and recharging and all that. Your response was very defensive toward what I initially tried to write as a very objective observation. I could've been more opinionated and said that our server was slow - we did have to ask a female server to ask for you to come to our table because we needed you to come to our table. I don't feel that you could have addressed our experience all at one as it just wasn't one that I would care to have again. I'm sorry for being honest. Out of the four of our meals, only one of us had a satisfactory meal (I believe she had the apple walnut on gluten-free bread). My potato and onion soup was no potato and all onion 🧅 what I did try to eat gave me a stomachache all day. My mother wanted to order potato salad, and after being convinced by the server that it wasn't a lot of food, she ordered a pepperoni brioche with the potato salad "for a $2 upcharge" No one at the table liked the brioche. It tasted as though it had been dipped in vinegar. All my mom ended up eating was the potato salad. The server didn't even take notice. The light fixtures were incredibly dusty, which was not pleasant with it hanging straight over my head. The server messed up on my sister's ticket, and when I called him over to fix it, he just asked her to take it off of his tip (it was only like a dollar and change more than what it should have been). I felt that it should have been corrected. My sister just adjusted his tip to save him the inconvenience of refunding and charging the correct amount. 🤷♀️ Unfortunately, this is NOT a place I would...
Read moreI have heard everyone all over rave about this place. I was so excited to try the fish and chips. The beginning of the service was great. The beer was fantastic, the soup was phenomenal. When our entrees came, both sets of fries were cold. The burger was lukewarm. And my fish was dripping in grease over my fries. I understand fish is deep fried. But it was like the fish wasn't able to sit in the paper tray to drain. The grease drained over my fries that were now cold and soggy. I explained to the manager that everything was great besides the fish and chips. Even though the burger and fries were not. But my partner ate his plate at least. I told her that I was willing to pay for his plate, the cup of soup I ate, and our two beers. But I was not willing to pay $22 for the fish when I ate one and a half fries and one bite of fish. I even showed her the whole meal was there. I really tried explaining everything calmly.the manager rolled her eyes, explained that they will only do 50% off the fish. And I tried explaining I wasnt willing to even pay for that because I didn't even eat 5% of the plate. But I'm willing to pay for everything I actually ate. The manger took our plates aggressively and told me how stupid my complaint was while causing a scene for everyone in the restaurant to look at us. And I just feel extremely disrespected and disappointed in the company. I have family that rave about the restaurant. I was excited to be in town to try it finally. And I think with being in customer service, you shouldn't tell your customers that their complaints are stupid when they say their food is cold and drowning in grease. I was willing to pay for everything we ate as well. She treated me as if I was just trying to catch a free meal. She compt both meals, I'm assuming because she did say that it was stupid and hoping I wouldn't write a review. I really hope the owner can have the manager take some customer service care classes because in the 10 years of bartending and management I've been in, that was completely uncalled for. I feel extremely...
Read moreUpon my arrival 20191020 I was worried that at 410pm on a Sunday as to the legitimaticy of the location as the restaurant was almost empty inside and out with exception of one other couple.
The hostess was not present at first and apologizes to me when she arrived upon her tardiness.
Seated outside under a large and pleasant awning we began.
Complimentary chips (store bought) and black bean dip (made in house) is flavorful and very solid bean flavored. Not over-spiced at all.
As per my usual I started with dessert which in the case of today was a sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream and an earl grey tea. Ice cream was good with flecks of vanilla. Sticky toffee was sweet, creamy, and fluffy warm while not too hot. Very good toffee flavor while still letting the cake present. Tea was store bought but still good.
Next was a sweet potato with apple with ginger soup with creme fraiche garnish and a toast point. Sight sour from the ginger and tart from the apples with good pureed sweet potato flavor with minimal additional spices to enhance the flavor.
I finished the meal with an order of the fish and chips. Icelandic cod in "traditional crispy batter". Shell was crunchy and fish was slightly acidic. No lemon was provided. The tartar sauce was one of the better ones I have had. Chips appear to be hand cut and are fried to proper crispness. I was surprised that malt vinegar was not provided.
Overall - Portion sizes are not huge but they are not out of line with the prices listed. Definitely recommend this place if you are able to visit.
Side note - By the leave of my visit at 515pm all but 1 table...
