I was super excited to finally be getting indian food here in Gastonia. I love it and don't like having to drive to Charlotte every time I want it.
That being said I wanted to love it, but I don't. I have been twice so far, First time i got takeout. Second time i came for the lunch buffet. I'm hoping just some tweaking needs to be done. I will say the flavor and texture of the food is excellent. My problems are that with the takeout (I ordered chicken Tikka Masala, Palak paneer, and naan) the Tikka left alot to be desired, again the flavor was great, however you could tell it was not fresh with the grease and separation, and there was very little chicken approximately 6 small pieces with an entire bowl of sauce. The palak paneer was good and seemed to be fresher. The Naan was OK too. I chopped it up to coming just before closing, but if that is the norm I wouldn't order again it costs too much to get so little. Which is a shame because it's my favorite.
Second chance was lunch buffet again very excited to try, but was honestly disappointed. I'll start with the good. Drinks were kept full, I like the decor, and seating. The variety of food was OK not the best and not the worst. The bad is that the food had issues with temperature. The fried veggies and some of the chicken was cold like it'd been sitting for awhile. The rice was hard and crunchy. I let them know the issue and my second plate different items were warm and others were cold. Right now I wouldn't come back for the buffet, simply because it cost $17 for a weekday, and that's just too much to not be satisfied. Hoping these are just hiccups with getting started.
If temperature is figured out, rotations are kept up, and portions for takeout are fixed this place will be great. Definitely worth a visit if you have a little money to blow and judge for yourself. I think I'll wait a little while to give them time to get things...
Read moreI hate to give this place or any place a bad review, but considering all of the good reviews I feel like I should share our experience. We went on a Thursday night, there were maybe 5 tables occupied when we got there. A table of 6 people got sat down about 5 minutes after us. It took a bit for someone to come take our order which was not a big deal, but then we waited a good 20 minutes or more for our appetizer to come out. The table of 6 that was sat after us got their appetizer first which I could tell was the same one we had ordered. Again, not a huge deal, I just thought maybe they got the tables confused and gave them our appetizer since we had ordered the same one. However, we then waited another 20-30 minutes after that for our food and again the table of 6 got all of their food about 10 minutes before we got ours. We both got Mutter Paneer and it was just very bland, the flavor seemed right, but there just wasn't enough of it and it was not spicy at all. Also a lot more watery than I've had it in the past. Our waiter came over and explained that it took so long because what we ordered was made fresh and nothing else that the other customers had ordered was made fresh. Not a great look or something you should tell customers. Our garlic naan was burnt on the back, like flaking black burnt pieces onto my plate. We asked them to remake it and when they brought the new one it was also burnt. The rice wasn't very good either. I am not a picky person, had our food come out and been good and not been burnt, even if it took a while to make I wouldn't have cared. I'm hoping these are just growing pains for this place, but we definitely won't be back...
Read moreI love Indian food!! Gastonia is incredibly lucky that the only purveyor of Indian cuisine in the area is a premier choice.
Atmosphere: I came in with my family of four and we were seated immediately. This restaurant is a white tablecloth affair, which I wasn't expecting but definitely felt a bit more fancy. We were seated by a weird structural thing so one side of the booth jutted out passed the table a little bit and was a little bit far from the table but we quickly adjusted. The place is nicely decorated, simple but you get a cool cozy vibe. I mean yes the place was quiet but I attribute that to the newness of the place.
Service: It was exemplary. The servers were courteous and swift. Our water was refilled basically after every sip. You can tell that is this place is the pride and joy of the owner because care and attentiveness is so apparent. As far as serving I thought it was great they dropped the food and left which is great, I came to enjoy with my family not make small talk and evaluate smiles.
Food: We got the butter chicken, curry chicken, Indian special biryani, chicken Malai kebab, and aloo and garlic naan. We shared as a table and all agreed that every part was a hit. I personally really liked the butter chicken, I've had it a good amount over the years and I can say that this place is the best I've had. The flavor was rich and creamy with just the right spice. Also the naan was soft and buttery and fresh. Overall, everything was delicious, fresh and authentic.
In summary, 10/10 can't wait to eat there again. If you're reading this do yourself a flavor and dine-in or take-out, you...
