I go to "Mexican" restaurants from time to time, hoping that I will find something original or authentic, and I am generally disappointed. As such, this review is not really specific to El Nopal... rather, it is an indictment of the whole "genre" of restaurants.
I had a plate of seafood tacos, which was disappointing.
I so wish that US consumers of Mexican food could understand that rice, beans, and melted cheese are not served with every Mexican dish... rather, Mexican food is nuanced and subtle. Certainly, rice and beans are frequent, but not with everything. Cheese is melted generally only on enchiladas suizas.
I get it that US consumers drive uniformity in the menus of these restaurants, but I would encourage the restaurants to let their cooks "be free" and cook something authentic... something from their native region, and something that their moms and dads would be proud of. Maybe, just maybe, the US market can (slowly) come to appreciate real...
Read moreDo not eat here. My food was $15.52 for take out. I paid them a $5.00 tip which brought the total to $20.52. I paid with my card. My bank spoke with me this morning and informed me that El Nopal charged me the $20.52 and also another charge was made by them of $45.52. We are in the middle of a pandemic. I gave a fair tip for a lunch take out meal that I personally picked up. Why would anyone think it is okay to steal $45.52 from a customers card. The food was great, BUT THEY ARE THIEVES. I WILL NEVER EAT HERE AGAIN!!! I would give them zero stars but that option is not available!!!
If they would have asked I would have given them the $45.52 tip, but since they decided to be thieves and steal Better Business Bureau, social media, and reviews...

The black beans weren’t drained properly, making everything turn black. There was no avocado, the corn was served in large chunks cut straight from the cob, and the rice tasted old—hard and likely 3-4 days old (it seemed). The Mango salsa was not great as well. The texture was like apple sauce compared to the previous location. I’d recommend skipping this item. I understand they’re still getting used to these new menu items, but making a bowl should be pretty straightforward. I have added the photos from both locations. You can see...
