Big Easy BBQ - A Cajun Smokehouse — Restaurant in Georgia

We were up in Canton last weekend house hunting with not much luck when my husband was like, “why don’t we find something to eat while we’re up here”? To which I was like, “coooool! That means I won’t have to cook when we get back”! Big Easy BBQ was in the right direction on the way out, so we stopped.

When we arrived there were only a couple of people in the restaurant (but that all changed in a matter of several minutes)! The staff was really friendly & in my book; that goes a long way. I ordered the fried alligator ($13) (As you can imagine, you can’t just run out to the corner cafe and pick up some fried alligator) so I was super stoked to find it on the menu here)!! For my taste, the breading was wayyyyy too thick. I couldn’t taste any of the meat, and you know how sometimes you bite into something breaded and fried and you get stabbed in the gums??😩🤯 the gator lacked any flavor at all, so after I sewed up my gums, I took a pass on the rest.

Both my husband and I ordered the Brisket Sammy. It did have a nice smoked flavor and it was tender to boot. It’s a massive sandwich and fo’ sho’ I didn’t have ANY illusions of eating the whole thing in one sitting..y’all…I ate the whole thing in one sitting.. this Sammy is really good! I placed a carry out order at the hostess stand and had numerous recommendations from the hostess as well as Keith who I believe was one of the proprietors.

I ended up ordering a full rack of St. Louis ribs, the blackened chicken sandwich, Mac & cheese, rice & beans, and some jalapeño hush puppies. Zapp's chips were included.

The ribs had an excellent flavor and were easy to tear apart with your hands. They were very meaty with a nice rub. I ordered the blackened chicken sandwich based on a recommendation by the hostess; it exceeded my expectations. It was flavorful, moist, and the bun seemed to have a sweetness that contrasted nicely with the blackened chicken.

The sides were good. The Mac and cheese used shells and a homemade cheese sauce. I don't have a reference point for the rice & beans but they were tasty as well.

On a separate visit, I ordered the sliced, fatty brisket sandwich. In my opinion, it is better than Fox Bros and certainly didn't need any sauce. It had a light, smoky flavor and melted in my mouth. The only brisket I can compare it to is the excellent brisket from Four 41 South. I tried the Corn Maque Choux and Spicy Green Beans for the sides and both were flavorful although a little strong for my taste.

Just got to visit this amazing restaurant last night with my family. Around the table we had a meat combo of pulled pork and ribs, a half rack of ribs, and the half chicken plate. In addition, we got as sides macc n cheese, turnip greens, jalapeno coleslaw, and a house salad. To say the meals were delicious is an understatement!! The pulled pork was melt in your mouth tender and scrumptious, the ribs the best in town, and the chicken equally so. The turnip greens were seasoned with a special ham and the macc n cheese was quite cheesy. The house salad was served in a good-sized stainless steel mixing bowl and almost too big to finish. In fact, the portions were so large even the biggest of appetites will be well satisfied. We had to take leftovers home so we could save space to share a dish of their Bread pudding! Oh my goodness, it was Heaven on Earth!! We ended up taking samples of several desserts home to enjoy the next day. Perhaps the best part was that in finishing up the leftovers for lunch today, the pulled pork and ribs were still beyond words. The owners Keith and Ross have a goldmine on their hands if the food, service, and atmosphere remain equal to our experience.
