I usually don't write reviews. If I do decide to write one, I never write a review based on a singular experience because I understand that each visit is just a small snapshot of the bigger overall picture. That being said, I have been to OCP several times, with parties as big as 60 and as small as just little ol me, sitting at the bar for lunch, and everything in between. I have NEVER been disappointed with any facet of my experiences here. Service (what I feel like is the most important part of a dining experience): ALWAYS impeccable. The servers I've had have always taken very good care of my party, are always pleasant, prompt, and communicative. Having empty cups and dirty dishes on the table is a pet peeve of mine, and I never have to deal with it here. Atmosphere: the place is always clean and organized. Good tunes and ambiance. It feels like a good neighborhood joint. Food: BBQ is my favorite type of food. I've eaten BBQ from all of the best bbq restaurants in Atlanta and Memphis (haven't made it to TX, yet). It's also my favorite type of food to cook as well, so I know how much love and passion goes in to good BBQ. This place is legit. They really care. Everything is cooked from scratch. The sides have never dissapointed. My favorite is the redneck lasagna. All the meats are 100% hardwood smoked everyday. They only cook enough to make it through service everyday, and if they run out, thats it. They dont do leftovers like most places do. The reasoning: they really care about quality and freshness. My favorite is the pulled pork, but the brisket is a close second. Today, I had the Nashville Hot Sandwich. It was delicious, as I've cone to expect from everything on the menu. You have to try the pork rinds, southern caprese and the poutine as apps. The brisket chili is amazing as well. Drinks: carefully selected craft brews to satisfy any palate (even some really delicious, rare kegs), and a wide variety of spirits including a selection of some seriously fine bourbon. No matter what I feel like sipping on today, I know OCP will have it. Overall: I really don't give 5 stars anywhere, but Koby and his team at OCP really have it dialed in. I have never been disappointed there, and always take any out of town company for dinner when I want to impress them. The owner is a local boy from down the way, doing his part to make his community a better place. Give the place a try. You wont be disappointed. They've got my business as long as...
Read moreI am back in the area two years later, and this time with our sons; we were worried we over sold this place to our boys but im happy to say, no, we did not!
Sauces, sides, and our main entrées were exceptional, our server, Harley, was super friendly and on top of our orders and refills, the manager dropped by to ask how we were doing, in short; a great BBQ experience!
Thanks again!
Wow! We came here without particular expectations and were so, so blown away!
First, Jake met us at the door and was so welcoming and patient with us tired and spacy out-of-towners that we felt relaxed about it closing in 20 minutes. (Yeah, we did that. Sorry!)
To the food: effing awesome! I got the chicken and it was smoked and marinated with amazing flavor that went all the way to the bone! I ignored the sauces for most of the half chicken until Jen piped up with an "OMG, the beans!" I tried the bbq baked beans and immediately realized I may have made a big mistake by not adding sauce and mixing the beans and chicken, so then set about trying everything.
Results were about 5 minutes of oohs, aws and OMFGs followed by eating sounds and then a small tussle over the last bits of sides and chicken. (Jen won :-O ) We are only here til next Monday but are already planning our return.
You need to try this place! Everything we tried tonight we lovedâeverything! We will try the rest of the menu next time. But I want to end this with the sauces: each was uniquely great. The sweet, spicy and Palmetto Gold sauces were wonderful but for me the Carolina Vinegar sauce was out of this world good!
Thanks Old Country Place for not settling for OK and for caring about each and every menu item! And thanks to Jake for the...
Read moreVery disappointed. Have been in the past and it was pretty good but apparently its gone down hill. Let me state that this was a to go order but we live less than 2 miles away. I think some restaurants don't care as much about those orders as eat in because customers leave and don't have the option to return improperly prepared food. Other restaurants where we get take out have all been fresh and hot plus are further away so it can be done. My bbq was cold and half the normal serving size from the past, fried okra soggy/cool and baked beans lukewarm. Wife's garden salad with salmon was ok but salmon had little flavor. Father in laws spicy fish and chips was almost cold and no spice. I sat outside for 5 minutes waiting on the food to be brought out as I wanted to be early and not have the food ready waiting on me. I wonder how long it sat before it was brought out. You would think that restaurants would be going above and beyond right now to get as much business as possible to stay afloat. We like to support local non chain restaurants but we will be looking to eat elsewhere in the future.
Edit. While I appreciate your response to my review, apparently it was just to make your restaurant look good. It's a shame you didn't mean what you said. I emailed you personally at the email address you provided almost 2 weeks ago and have yet to receive a reply back. I would have almost preferred no response over a response with false claims of making things right. Apparently business is good and customer satisfaction...
