We come to Savannah often and this was our first time staying on Skidaway Island. The Driftaway was right up the road so we decided to try their brunch. They advertise and have a sign when you walk in that says “Bottomless Mimosas”. Great, wasn’t even on our radar but when the hostess told us it was a 30 minute wait, that we could wait at the bar, we decided to order the mimosas and bloody Mary’s. A $52 bill btw.. no complaints paid it. When our table was ready we let the waitress know we had ordered mimosas and we would like the next round. She said they would have to charge us again, because their general manager had quit the day before and they no longer were offering bottomless mimosas. I pointed to the sign and said I had to insist. We wouldn’t have ordered them otherwise. 30 minutes later, no food and no mimosas, I had to ask for the waitress to come back to the table. She came back and said the bartenders disagree and that we didn’t order the bottomless mimosas specifically and that they have to open new champagne and she would check. Eventually she brought a bottle of champagne over with about 4 oz’s of orange juice. I insisted, again, we were not paying additional for this. We had been waiting 45 minites for food we hadn’t received, most people around us were getting antsy too because no other table has food either. The waitress was apologizing that there were a couple of orders in front of us that food should be coming soon. At this point we have been at the restaurant for an hour and a half. Then the bartender/manager walks over, puts her hands on my kids shoulders and begins to explain to me how we ordered the bottomless mimosas incorrectly, we should have told them which type of mimosa we wanted. Again, our first trip here, they have a sign for bottomless mimosas and we have not yet gotten food. The bar tab has been paid and she is scolding us in front of the whole restaurant that technically we should be charged $50 more dollars for the drinks we already paid for. At that point I gathered my family and we left. Avoid this restaurant. I would love to tell you the food was terrible, but we really don’t know. After almost 2 hours of time wasted we never saw a morsel of food. Just harassment and insults for ordering a brunch special they advertise as...
Read moreThis is a fantastic little restaurant. First of all I love the atmosphere. You walk in and you can just feel friendliness We were greeted by a awesome lady with funky glasses and blonde hair and she was just so nice. She just told us pick a spot any spot and we'll just find you don't worry about it So we went to the back where they had an enclosed porch area with glass that was very pretty then they also had an outdoor back deck then they had an interior and then they had a front deck so we decided to go and sit in the beautiful sun on the front deck She really was an awesome lady and then I think halfway through the shift they must have changed servers because then another gal came out. She was very very sweet And I'll just say service was very prompt and they gave us time to look over the extensive menu and it was impressive The food didn't take very long at all. And the presentation was fantastic I had a salmon salad and everything was perfect. The greens were fresh I had crispy cucumbers and beautiful tomatoes and the salmon was grilled to perfection with very very flavorful spices and they actually brought out two containers of dressing so nothing chintzy at all I had plenty of dressing My sister had I think some type of blue cheese chip a dish so it looks very delicious. She said she really enjoyed it it was a lot of food and it looked like it was fried potatoes wedges with blue cheese dressing She even mentioned to the waitress that she'd been to other restaurants where they go very light on the cheese and she was a little concerned about that But the waitress reassured her that she would get plenty of blue cheese . Anyway it was just a wonderful wonderful atmosphere we met a great lady by the name of Sharonr and I thought she was the owner Is she approached our table and gave us two pink flamingos mints. And then started talking to us about living in New York and how she comes up here for 5 months of the year and really loves it I liked that she was so friendly. And she wasn't the owner she was just somebody also there having a meal So it's just a great place good food good prices and they even had a dog bed outside so it's pet friendly I would definitely recommend it and I would...
Read moreI'd really give this place a 2.5 rating, but that's not an option. True rating here. I've been here once before with a friend and we were both startled at the prices. So my friend and I both got sandwiches and soup and called it a day. This is the second time I've been back and for dinner service and sadly, it wasn't that good. The food was okay, but definitely NOT worth the price. I'm willing to pay $40 for good food in Savannah, but $23 a plate for something frozen I could make at home was ridiculous. Plus, we waited over 40 min for a table when we were told it was a 15 min wait. We got beers, wine, appetizer, salad, regular menu item, and a special - so safe to say we tried a lot. The beer selection was good ($8 for a glass of Loose Cannon though). The calamari appetizer we got had good seasoning but was super chewy. It was like I was eating rubber. The salad was fantastic (excellent balsamic dressing)! But the main entrees (that cost $23-$26) weren't great. I got the special of red snapper with pasta. It looked like huge spaghetti with small overcooked fish. I couldn't taste the fish and the pasta just tasted like tomato paste and olives. We also got the shrimp and grits which were really good, except they were way too salty. Not a problem if served a small portion, but every portion was huge! But unfortunately, even though I wasn't impressed at the food, I wasn't upset until I realized we had never gotten our waters and I watched a waitress drop a napkin of silverware on the floor and put it back with the others. That's how my night ended, so safe to say I might not...
