I recently visited Fish and Grits and ordered the shrimp and grits. Overall, my experience had both pros and cons.
Pros: The shrimp was divine—seasoned and fried perfectly. It was some of the best fried shrimp I’ve had in a long time. Often, fried shrimp is either too hard or overly salty, but this was just right: crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside. I appreciated that the shrimp was kept separate from the grits using wax paper. That was a smart touch, especially for takeout, since it prevents the shrimp from getting soggy during transport. My customer service experience was fine. I didn’t encounter the rude service that other reviews mentioned. I was greeted when I walked in, given time to decide, and wasn’t rushed or ignored. Nothing exceptional, but nothing bad either.
Cons: While the grits were flavorful, they were too gritty for my taste. I prefer creamier, smoother grits that melt in your mouth rather than having a noticeable texture. That’s a personal preference, but something to note for those who feel the same way. The wait time was longer than expected. From the time I placed my order to receiving my food, it took 20 minutes. While I understand that things are cooked to order, grits are in the name of the restaurant—there should be a more efficient system for preparing them.
Final Thoughts: Would I return? Maybe. The shrimp alone was good enough to come back for, but the grits didn’t quite meet my expectations. If you love well-seasoned, juicy fried shrimp, this place is worth a try. But if you’re a fan of ultra-creamy grits, you might want to manage your...
Read moreLet me start by saying that this was my first time buying food from this establishment. My uncle has purchased food from this restaurant several times and has brought food from there to me and the food has been good- (mainly the fish/grits . ) Upon walking into the restaurant, I was not greeted. There were two girls sitting there at the counter and they were both busy on their phones and all the while, profane music was playing loudly on the television. I walked up to the counter- greeted the girls and tried to place my order. I had questions in general. The girl that finally addressed me did not know the answer to my question so she asked the other girl sitting next to her on her cellphone- she never looked up from her phone -but answered my question. Ok, I get my order placed and I’m waiting on my food. Both girls then go in the back area and them come back out eating fish at the counter!! I’m appalled!! I am now wondering if they were cooking my food or someone else. I did ask if someone else was cooking. To some relief, someone else was back there cooking the food. I was literally ready to cancel my order because the entire visit was unprofessional, disrespectful and without any regard for customer service. I finally get my food and the girl places my food in my bag and simply turns and walks away. I was not told to have a good day or come back to see us lol. I guess i was expecting too much in the way of common curtesy lol. I will not be supporting this establishment anymore due to the lack of...
Read moreThe food was good, but the cashier was not well versed in customer service. She treated the customer ahead of me in a rude manner, and he was nothing but nice to her eventhough they were out of almost any menu item he requested. Next, he was going to get charged for an upgraded waffle that he didnt actually want and was only taking because they were out of the regular waffle. The young lady kept saying "I'm the owners daughter... do you know how many people say they arent coming back and then come back because the food is good" She also made the statement that "grits" qualifies as breakfast all day as advertised. Newsflash... the food is straight but it's not something anyone from the south couldn't cook in their kitchen... it's no Nana's or Two Eggs. I was up for patronizing this establishment, but the rudeness of the young lady completely turned me off. My friend didn't order but said she probably never would now. The couple that was waiting was also visibly taken a back. Let me remind you all again the customer was super nice and understanding. He only asked questions about why he was unable to get true breakfast as advertised and why he was being charged for an upgraded waffle that he was only getting because they were out of regular (this was about the 3rd time they'd come from the back to say we're out of his requested menu item). There were some other rude comments made from the cashier, but I digress. It just really left a bad taste in my mouth......
