Well. We were going to take our complimentary pizza and call it done but then we got home and opened the box...
Firstly, I should note that we were there on a Saturday night and it was quite busy. That's fine. I understand that that typically means things will go slower.
Anyway, we were seated quickly and our hostess was very friendly. Our waitress, on the other hand, not so much. She wasn't flat out rude or anything. She just wasn't really friendly (which is fine, I guess; we weren't there to be friends), she was constantly rushing (almost left without my drink order), and was very inattentive. This is just the start. But so far, not THAT bad.
So anyway, we ordered an appetizer and our pizza. We ordered a medium (14") with pepperoni, sausage, and onions on one half and just cheese on the other (this is important later). We got the appetizer promptly in about 3-5 minutes. But then we waited and waited for our pizza, watching carry out orders galore come in and pick up pizza after pizza, and watching all of our "neighbors" get their pizzas. After about an hour of this my wife and I decide we were too hungry to wait and we were going to go somewhere else. So I went in to get the check. After about another 10 minutes of our waitress being AWOL, the hostess finds her and tells her that we want our check.
Pause for a sec. At this point there were no hard feelings. We were just hungry and didn't want to wait that long for pizza. We even tipped the waitress for the cost of the full meal (i.e., including the pizza that we weren't going to get/eat). They were busy. It was a Saturday night. It's okay. We get it. It would have been nice to know we'd have to wait that long, but whatever. It's all good!
But this is where it gets interesting. After the hostess goes to talk to our waitress, our waitress waves me over. "Awesome. She's gonna tell me that our pizza is 'almost done,' and there's going to be a big stink about this," I thought. Almost precisely what happened! She says, "Your pizza should be coming out of the oven ANY minute!"

Really? What are the odds?! "Okay, but we're going to eat somewhere else. I just want our check less the pizza," I said. "Well, I really need you to take the pizza so I don't have to explain why it's not going to a table," she replied. "We don't want it," I said. But she insisted, some other person was eavesdropping and even commented to me on the situation, and I was starting to feel like an impatient jerk (and maybe I was, but I was really trying not to be), not to mention we were starving so I took it and ran.
So later we get home and open up the box. It's not what we ordered. It wasn't even the right size!! It's pepperoni and sausage over the whole pizza and onions on one half. One half was supposed to be cheese only. "Okay," I told the wife, "she futzed up the order anyway. Great. Glad we made other dinner plans." Then we notice that the box was labeled "16 inches." It was a large, not the medium we'd ordered. We then realized EXACTLY what happened. Our waitress told the cooks to toss some onions on a pepperoni and sausage pizza (any one they had coming out of the oven!!!) so she could give it to us.
Our order was probably missed or never placed. And you know what? Okay. You're busy. Mistakes happen. Not a huge deal. Is it annoying? Yes. End of the world? God, no.
Frankly, if she had just copped up to the order being misplaced instead of making a sloppy attempt to save face, this review wouldn't be happening. But, that was the last straw for us. That is not acceptable behavior. Don't lie to your customers. I don't care how good the pizza is. I couldn't even bring myself to try it, I was so angry, and...
Read moreSal's is one of our favorite places on SSI. The food is phenomenal. We went this past Saturday night when we on the island for a quick Spring Break trip. We sat on the patio and everything was going great until our main courses were to come out. My daughter's alfredo came out first and after waiting about 10 minutes for the rest of the food, we told her to start eating. A few minutes later my eggplant parmesan came out. Our server offered a mild apology for the delays. No food came out and our server was scarce for about 20 more minutes. My daughter and I were basically finished when my son's chicken parmesan came out. My husband was still waiting on his pizza. After another 20 minutes, the server finally returned apologizing mildly again and stating my husband's pizza (when it came) would be discounted. My husband ended up eating mine and my daughter's leftovers before his pizza was delivered to the table. He never took a bite of his pizza. We asked for a box and the server offered a cannoli to go which we accepted. By the time the server brought the check we were all exhausted and frustrated and were ready to go. We paid with her standing over us and admittedly did not look at the ticket very well. We ended up tipping 20% because that was the lowest option the computer gave and we were ready to go. When we got back to the car and inspected the receipt, she only took off $4.00 on the price of the pizza! I am not one to ask for free food, but this was ridiculous. It would have gone a long way had she been more apologetic or even acted like she cared. It will be a long time before we...
Read moreIf there was a lower rating I would have used it. We had a party of 7 that had to be split up (not that big of a deal, but it was largely due to the poor seating by the staff). Ended up with a table of four and it took nearly 15mins to take our order; ordered an appetizer (eggplant fries), had to remind our waiter after I got my food that they didn’t bring our fries, they had given our fries to another table. Two people at our table ordered two different raviolis, both came out with sauces so watery that their ravioli was soggy and lacking flavor. We also had fried ravioli ordered for our table and it came out burnt. They brought the last person’s food at our table over 10mins after they finally brought our appetizers (which came out after three of us already had our entrees). Lastly, we sat inside and we had to fight flies from our food the entire time. Btw, we watched our waiter fix himself mixed drinks the whole time as well. Was not a good time at Sal’s. Not normally someone that writes reviews because I understand how a restaurant can have a rough night at times, but this was ridiculous and kind of ruined our friend’s birthday dinner that we all had gone out to celebrate. On a positive note, some of our food did taste good, but the ravioli wasn’t one of them and some of the food came out cold. Definitely do not recommend this restaurant at this time - pretty sure we will not be back and we are...
