Tried this place out last night. Nice friendly staff and above average service. The place is pretty nice and benefits from the Village location...oh, and the live entertainment/music from the Mexican restaurant balcony. Bathroom hallway tight and clumsy with staff working right outside the doors. Toilet wouldn't flush, trash cans full. This may not the norm but just sayin' it was last night. Unfortunately the food is a miss. I would actually say that 3 of the 5 things brought to the table were borderline bad. With some tweaks on execution it could be a world of difference for this place. For example the garlic rolls just need to be completely scaled-back in terms of how much oil and garlic are put on them. I mean seriously blowing out someone's palate before they even eat their entrees. Just a waste of product as well. Even scraping it all off the tops was still just a mess. The rolls themselves are probably excellent. My chicken marsala was prepared decent other than once again I'm not sure if there was garlic in it or if it was just the residue from the rolls on my palate. I will say the sauce was NOT a super skilled version. It was very Brown and creamy and thick more like a gravy. Portion size was very good and the chicken was done fine. Pasta maybe a little mushy but it's underneath everything so maybe better on the side of the plate would be my recommendation. The worst thing was the chicken dish that has sun-dried tomatoes, goat cheese and some kind of cheese sauce. This was a complete train wreck and absolutely disgusting. They took what could be a fairly healthy clean dish and just made it heavy and fatty and oily and seriously I thought maybe they would do something for us when they saw we had only eaten a third of it and I did mention that it was very heavy and didn't taste great. Not that I expected anything nor asked so no problem there. Just awareness was off. This dish should just be removed from the menu or completely reworked. We had a good time regardless but I can't say we'll be coming back. We did notice the pizza looked and smelled good but it was very, very thin. Just a heads up there. Cheers THIS ADDED: The wine prices kept us from each ordering a glass (or two) of wine. There's a fine line and a balance in this department. Putting some value in pricing will create volume which will always lead to a better bottom...
Read moreWent in New Years Eve with the wife at 6PM, a couple of folks in three of the booths and one couple at the bar. First time here and liked the menu from the web and atmosphere I saw in person. We were looking forward to a new place.
Sitting at the bar, ordered a couple of beers and then 5-7 min later time to order food. Looking at the menu and with the wife a vegetarian we ordered 1/2 Meat lovers and 1/2 Margherita. The waitress looked at us and said “we are two busy tonight to do any split speciality pizzas.”
I looked around the whole restaurant and counted 12 total in the entire place including us and 6 of them already had their food. It was only 6PM so no new Years rush going on yet. I know I had a puzzled look and said really? All I got back was a blank stare. So I said OK thanks, we drank our beers and left for the Mellow Mushroom at the collection where we had a large 1/2 Cosmic Karma and 1/2 Mighty Meaty. As it was new years we also bought dinner for a complete stranger (Dad and daughter) and tipped the waiter at the bar $40 for showing us a great time.
I love Vickery (especially Tanners and Cherry Street), I can’t tell you if the food at Village Italian is any good or not, the place looks good, it is not busy but don’t try and split a pizza, we tried but doubt we will be back. As a small business owner I understand this place has changed hands a lot. I can only hope the owner gets it together as the place...
Read moreI’ve been a regular at Village for about six years now, and while I’ve always enjoyed my time here, I finally had a true WOW moment thanks to your newest team member—Henry.
Henry is an absolute breath of fresh air! From the moment he stepped in, you could tell he brings something different. He’s incredibly well-groomed, speaks with such poise and charm, and has this magnetic energy that instantly lights up the room. His vocabulary and the way he communicates is impressive—super professional yet personable.
Recently, I had the pleasure of seeing him behind the bar and wow, what a game-changer! He had the whole bar laughing and engaged, effortlessly creating a great vibe. Even better, seeing a male bartender confidently and respectfully backing up the female bartender was such a powerful and refreshing moment. That kind of teamwork is exactly what every bar needs more of.
Oh—and let’s not ignore the obvious: Henry is eye candy, no doubt! He’s easy on the eyes, and I wouldn’t mind seeing more of him during brunch or lunch shifts (hint hint).
Village, you truly did something right by hiring Henry. He’s a gem, and I can’t wait to see how he continues to elevate the energy here. Cheers to great hires and even better...
