One cold winter day I was off riding on the North East side of Georgia, scoping out new areas and new roads. I was hungry because let's be honest, it had probably been an hour or two since my last meal!! I was approaching some large facilities to my left that caught my eye because of its funky looking roof when I noticed a sign on the right side of the road that read THE SNACK SHACK, as soon as saw the OLD FASHIONED part of the sign I started breaking hard to make a sharp right into their parking area. When I pulled in I realized everyone was in the comfort of their warm/heated cars because there is no inside dining area at THE SNACK SHACK, only some outside benches. Did I care? Nope, I was hungry. I've been here several times but my favorite item is either their PANTHER burger which lays in between two cheesy grilled cheese buns or their BACON BLUE CHEESE BURGER which simply has bacon and blue cheese on it. Their PANTHER burger is awesome because the grilled cheese portion of it would be great on its own, then you add a burger with some onions? Yes!! They do not cheap out on the amount of crispy bacon and creamy blue cheese you get on the BACON BLUE cheese burger, the fries and coke zero compliment the burger and strong taste very well but I do like the ONION RINGS better than the fries. Although the bun may not be photogenic like other burger buns, it is a great bun because it isn't thick and heavy, allowing the star of the meal to be what's in between the buns. Their chili has a great taste and isn't too salty like some other places, so having chili cheese fries and a chili cheese hot dog will leave you saying "eh, why not...". Drink options are canned or bottled sodas and I wish there was maybe a small soda fountain because I like taking a bite of my food followed immediately by a zesty COCA-COLA and sometimes I run out of my canned soda before I'm done with my meal. One last thing, their food is great but what makes this place special is the people. I met the owner Jeff and his wife one time while visiting after Jeff started up a conversation over how I was enjoying the meal. The passion and love in which he speaks about his food and business, to me, will always be the most amazing part of trying new places. You are getting to experience someone else's hard work and labor and getting to let them know what you think. After my experience at THE SNACK SHACK and getting to talk to Jeff I was left thinking "why would anyone go to a fast food spot like a burger king or wendy's when you have awesome little local spots like this all over GA?". I think people just like what they know and may be afraid to venture out. Maybe one day one of those people will see one of my posts and think "let me try THE SNACK SHACK...." or any other local food business, and if that happens with at least one person, I've done my job!! I encourage you to check out THE SNACK shack if you live near Jefferson or find yourself traveling up 85 and try one of the menu items. Ask the staff if they have anything special cookin for that day, Jeff and their staff often post about new and exciting combinations with their breakfast and/or lunch. Heck, I encourage you to try a LOCAL food business in your area this next week instead of going to a large chain or fast food joint, support our local businesses!! Let me know who you give a try and if I haven't been where you went, I'll give them a try!!    Read morePrior to Warrenâs Snack Shack being Warrenâs it was Owenâs Snack Shack. I have eaten there for decades. Great burger joint. Always good service - for a burger joint. Today was a disaster. We were in the restaurant at our table for an hour. We ordered and got our drinks and appetizer within 10 minutes. It was not crowded.
An hour later my 1 year old and 2 year old had eaten all the snacks we prep when eating out to help tide them over. We asked a couple times about the food and weâre told it was coming right up. We ordered 2 hotdogs, kids nuggets and a buffalo chicken wrap.
While we sat there, 2 groups of 4 were seated and served as were two other tables for 2. All eating within 30 mins. You notice these things when youâre wrangling babies and trying to keep them quiet. We hit a point where we had to get the kids home. I donât fault them for this but what happened with the manager Lady at the register was just outrageous and unacceptable.
She asked if I wanted to wait for the food to go which I declined and said I would just pay for what we had - 2 drinks and the appetizer.
Then she goes into all the ways where I was in the wrong.
âYour order only went in 20 minutes ago.â
âThatâs a problem with your server then Iâve been here an hour,â
âYour order doesnât go in until after you get your app.â
âMaâam I got my appetizer 45 minutes ago.â
âSir we make things to order.â
âIâve eaten here for years, I know this but Iâve watched all these people sit order and eat. I have two babies we are outa time.â
She rang me up full price, never apologized in fact she made it a point to make me think it was my fault for not being more patient after an hour. So I paid, tipped and will likely never go back. As I signed the check the food came out togo. She snapped at her server âHe didnât pay for that take it back.â
In a civilized world the meal would be comped or at least a discount given. But not at Warrenâs. At Warrenâs you get what you get and you donât pitch a fit and you take your hungry babies home unfed. Heck at Applebees your meal is free after 20 minutes by default.
The level of rudeness from one lady is enough to chase off a 20+ year customer.
How sad. If Warren is around, thanks for the memories brother. We...
Read moreTried Warrenâs a year ago for dinner around when they first opened and it was not good all the way around. Tried again tonight and it was just bad again. Here is what we ordered.
The special that night - fried grouper and shrimp with turnip greens and cream corn. It was not hot and the batter was chewy and tough and tasted like old oil. At least 1 piece of the âgrouperâwas definitely catfish. The sides were ok but the shrimp and fish were just bad. When I asked the price of the special no on knew but thought it was $19. At checkout it was $25. How do you know not know the price? The Sunshine burger with onion rings- they do not ask how you would like the burger or the fried egg (runny, medium, over-easy or hard). The burger was very well done and drier than the crypt-keepers tomb. The egg was fried hard. We asked for no ketchup, mayo, or mustard, and yes they put all of that on there anyway, but that at least added some moisture. The onion rings were good though. Steak sandwich and fries-this appeared to be one of those frozen country fried steak patties you can buy at the grocery store. It was on Texas toast. Honestly, it was the best of all three meals which is super sad. The fries were good as well.
The restaurant was very slow for a Saturday evening. When we ordered all of the above it literally came out five minutes later. Generally, fast service is what you want but the food was not hot, and this just indicated to me that this food was not fresh cooked at all and probably quickly reheated and put on a plate. The servers just looked tired and miserable. It was so disappointing. We have not done the breakfast and do not intend to at this point. We have given this place two chances and it has been terrible both times. Do not intend to return even though they are just 5 minutes from our house. Do NOT trust the high review score her because it is not at...
