China House — Restaurant in Gering

It’s ok, nothing bad and the locals I observed eating here prove that it’s acceptable to the Western NE Chinese restaurant palate. Here’s my “first impression” rating for most any ethnic restaurant - if you call and the person who answers sounds like a native English speaker, bad deal, not authentic at all. This lady, yep, she passed. The online menu is not current. Like my order-Szechuan chicken with included steamed rice+ 2 pork egg rolls did not compute. They now have only chicken egg roll (looked like large spring rolls) and rice is $1 extra. Fine, time? 20min. That’s longer than some. But what in hell you got to do anyway? I'm staying in Gering, NE for a few days, and this restaurant was in easy walking distance of the hotel. I had the Mongolian Beef combo. It came with your choice of egg drop or hot and sour soup, crab rangoon, egg roll, and fried rice. The beef was super tender, and the onions were very sweet. I opted for the egg drop soup, which was very good. The fried rice was spot on. What was amazing to me was the price. Before tax, it was $11.59. First time went based on reviews. Food was subpar and tasteless.
