We just had an absolutely brilliant experience at Sushi Rock & Grill.
I want to start by really celebrating the service which is top notch. I don't say this lightly, but it's "wow" level service without being flashy. They take really good care of you. At one point I clumbsily dropped one of my chopsticks and the young lady at the front noticed, stopped what she was doing, and had already brought me a fresh pair before I even had time to laugh at myself. Our server was wonderful. Very kind, very fast, and very attentive. At one point they perceived that we had waited too long to get our drinks and ended up comping us miso soup and some gyoza to make up for a problem we didn't even think of as a problem. Like I said, this is top notch service.
Now to the food... it was REALLY good. I'm a big sushi eater and have had quite a lot of sushi across Arizona. I think the combination of price, quality, and proportions (generous sushi filling without padding it with too much rice) can't be beat. I loved my Arizona roll which had really balanced texture and flavors. Honestly I wish I ordered a second one because my mouth is watering just thinking about it.
You're doing yourself a disservice if you don't go try this place out. We just moved to the area and I can tell you I'll absolutely be back because I need to try more of this menu.
Bravo.
P.S. we noticed another review said there is no alcohol here but that doesn't seem to be true as of the time of my review. I got an ice cold Kirin to round out my fabulous meal.
Edit: We came back to visit and had another great experience at Wednesday happy hour. Got a mountain of sushi and a large beer for $50. We're stuffed and...
Read moreI waited 2 hours and 45 minutes for my food. I ordered it on Uber Eats at 4pm for a 6pm pick up. Got there because it said my order was ready. Was told it would be ready in 25-30 minutes so I braved it. I asked 8 times when my food would be ready while I watched groups of new people circle in and out with orders that had been ordered at 7pm. Mind you I couldn’t cancel my order because at 6:55 they had marked my order as completed, so Uber Eats couldn’t cancel and refund my order. By 8pm I asked them where my food was again and they said they didn’t even receive my order until 7pm so it would be another 30 mins. At this point I was about to walk out, without my $100 worth of food. I asked the wait staff if i could at least give them my phone number so I could sit in my car. I was fuming. By 8:30…nothing. I watched as 8 people walked out with their food…people who were there for a quarter of the time I was. So I went back inside so they didn’t forget about me and 15 minutes later I finally got my food, it was cold. The kicker…they were giving people chocolate and $20 gift cards for the wait. As I was walking out the door a woman ran up to me with a gift card and apologized for the long wait…it was $10, the thought was nice but a slap in the face. I drove home crying because it was Valentine’s day and all I wanted to do was have a nice dinner at home with my partner. It would have been nice if they just would have turned their Uber Eats and DoorDash request off for the night, would have saved me one of the worst customer experiences...
Read moreCrammed into a tiny space, with multiple waiters asking us consecutively for our order after we just placed it with another waiter - quick service and food at the cost of no flavor - this just isn't the place for us.
One waiter would walk by and ask if we want a refill, we would kindly decline and 1 minute later another waiter would ask the same question... And then again another waiter... And another waiter...
The deep fried cheese and crab appetizer should be renamed to "deep fried air pocket", as ours has no cheese nor crab in it. It was quite literally a deep fried air pocket.
The gyoza was okay, but it was bland and tasted a lot like nothing.
The spicy edamame had 0 spice to it.
The Philly roll somehow managed to taste like.... Nothing. Even the cream cheese was unnoticeable. The avocado had the most flavor in the roll and that's pretty bad considering avocado has a very mellow and light flavor.
The spicy crab roll tasted like a California roll with no spiciness so basically I just tasted crab and rice at a higher cost.
The volcano roll should be renamed to "crab mountain" - at least it tasted like something, but even then all you could taste was the crab, at a much higher cost.
The atmosphere felt like I was in a rushed setting that wasn't meant to be a restaurant. Way too crowded, way too much movement, way too many people in and out non stop. Food came fast but at the cost of no flavor. Service was quick but at the cost of a constant bombardment of asking for our order/refill - like a scene from...
