One star is generous. That being said, I am a believer, have served as a missionary for over 5 years locally and abroad, and have worked for 10+ years in coffee and food service. I have visited this shop only a few times as I am rarely in Gladstone. I wanted to support a good Jesus loving local establishment. I'm sad that I have to write this, but I received physical confirmation for what I've felt everytime I've been in. This place lacks generosity, hospitality, and integrity. I manage a secular coffee shop in Portland, and these sentiments are what we strive to exhibit...as a SECULAR coffee shop. Last week my fiancée was in and was buying a latte, her card declined. Cards decline for many reasons other than insufficient funds, this was one of those cases, she figured out the problem shortly after, and being integritous would have returned to pay for her drink. In EVERY OTHER CAFE in Portland where I have witnessed this as a bystander, or been on the other side of the counter, the items are comped with no strings attached, no matter what. I understand, if you need to make a policy to make sure people don't take advantage of you as a business, we have one, but her drink was already made, and as she was refused her drink she watched the barista who made it pour it down the drain. If you want to learn how to run a cafe with integrity in everything you do, I'd be happy to continue correspondence with you. Until you embody the heart of Chrisitanity as a business, you can rest assured that I, nor anyone I know will ever go to your...
Read moreChristian-centered ambiance, moderate prices and good selection. Most of the reviews indicate the wide array of coffee choices and options, many varieties of food options, including a vegetarian breakfast option. I wasn't aware of the Christian focus until I saw the comment/prayer cards, and then became aware of the music in the background. While my preferences in coffee tend to be more neutral, I wasn't dissuaded by proselytizing baristas. The options were almost too overwhelming and there wasn't something that just popped out on the menu that I needed to try. I was greatly disappointed in the breakfast sandwich, which consisted of a veggie patty, egg and optional cheese (I don't use dairy, so I skipped that option). There were no veggies on the sandwich, and no offer for veggies. Given the price, I would have been better served at Subway for less. The sandwich was palatable, but not savory. The chai was a little on the sweet side. The last, bitter taste in my experience were two things: there was a time limit on wifi access. Granted, it 's a generous time limit (3-hours), it was still a barrier to my enjoyment of the relaxing fare. Additionally, there was no recommendation for a loyalty club. While this is not a must-have, it's a local culture in almost every coffee shop in Portland. I deviated from my plans to try this place out. It wasn't a horrible experience, but I don't think I'll find my way back. Good luck, be well and enjoy...
Read moreGood coffee and food is pretty good, just smaller portions for the price. Friendly staff. Usually pretty slow drive through so I don’t go if I’m in a rush. Also, the drive thru is hard to hear when traffic goes by, so confirm your order with them before pulling up. I’ve had items made incorrectly because they couldn’t hear me. The Christian music and “have a blessed day” makes me creeped out, as a non-Christian person, but I know what to expect when I go there, so it is what it is. I just ignore that since I know it’s their thing. Oh and there’s no awning by the drive through so you get all wet waiting.
I also don’t appreciate their political signs but of course they are free to post whatever they want. Just don’t understand how you’d be against funding a public school bond? Just shows me where to spend my money and I can find other...
