I live nearby and I LOVE traditional Jersey diners, which this one is, but I haven't eaten there in years because I've had exceptionally bad experiences with the food, a certain older waitress, and the prices. The waitress, who I've usually been unlucky enough to get, is surly, unfriendly, and unhelpful. It always took forever for her to come over to give me a menu and to take my order. And I don't think I've ever seen this poor woman smile. The food: I've had to send some back -- my strongest memory of that involves a fish cake. Tasted like what I imagine cat food to taste like...except I'm not a cat. Another time I had a fried shrimp dinner. There were no fresh vegetables to accompany it (I think the diner uses only canned or frozen), the shrimps were tiny and WAY overcooked (hard and dry), and I paid far too much for this disaster. All other meals have been overpriced, too. I'm sorry to make this report, but I feel I have to warn people. This diner draws a big crowd, but I don't know why. Breakfasts are OK, but lunch and...
Read moreLooking for a diner for a quick bite. Found Angelo's and dropped in. Small place. Packed with people. Always a good sign. Sat right behind the cook. Woman who served us was great. Doing the best she could in the tight space. Watched the cook drop food on the floor and pick it up and serve it. The whole short order grill was a mess. Food spilling out all over the place. This place could be a jem, maybe it once was. Ownership clearly isn't running a tight ship anymore. 2 elderly people shuffled around, looking like they wanted to appear as if they were doing something. Time to let another person take this operation over.
Oh and by the way. Only takes cash. Really? 2019? That screams of owners pocketing proceeds. We all need to...
Read moreThe food and the service is amazing. I visited the diner around 6pm on a Saturday and almost all the booths were full. Many people have been going there for years and know the wait staff very well. We ordered a cheeseburger, spinach omelet, eggplant parmesan sandwich, and a vanilla milkshake. Everything was fresh and did not take very long. We were able to see the burger being made right in front of us, which was really cool. In addition, the desserts are all homemade too. We tried the bread pudding and the rice pudding. The rice pudding was especially good because it wasn’t too sweet, like I’ve experienced at other places. Lastly, the prices are pretty affordable but they only take cash. So if you are planning on going there, make sure you have...
