I absolutely adore this gem of a restaurant. We’ve been coming here for over twenty years and it has been consistently great. As delicious as the other restaurants are in the area, we eat the majority of our meals here. I love the quirky yet tasteful nautical decor and wood-paneling. There are always fresh flowers on every table that look like they came out of someone’s garden (and probably do). An array of chalkboards hang across the back with the soup specials and today’s desserts. I hope they never change the iconic Hawaiian shirts the staff wear. The food is excellent quality - breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The only thing I can’t recommend is the white fish - unfortunately, the serving size on both the sandwich and the salad is very small and frankly a waste of money. They used to have an awesome salmon sandwich for lunch that had a nice thick salmon filet on it, although that sadly appears to have been discontinued. The ham and turkey sandwiches typically come loaded up and the crab cake sandwich is delicious. The ham sandwich is the best you will find anywhere. Thick, hand-carved slices of delicious ham with a couple slices of creamy dill Havarti, fresh romaine & ripe tomato (and purple onion for those who like that), and a slather of mayo on an absolutely divine whole wheat loaf. These braided loaves of grainy bread are so great we always order an extra one or two for the table. The different types of chili are tasty and come out blazing hot and overflowing their crocks. The salads really shine with tons of fresh chopped vegetables and homemade dressings (the blue cheese is fabulous). Their iced tea and coffee are both locally sourced and delicious. One of my only quibbles is how hard it is to get drink refills a lot of the time. A shout-out to current staff member Hazel who really raised the bar with her friendly & attentive service. You rock, Hazel! Thank you all at Good Harbor Grill for feeding me and my family wonderful meals every time we are in town. I hope to be coming here another twenty years and another...
Read moreI thought about this review for awhile... And decided it was worth posting. We came here as a family of 4, our two teens got the sirloin steak entrees. We asked for medium rare due to them only offering this cut of steak. They came out more than well done. I felt bad for asking but thought for two $40 (each) 6 oz. sirloin steak entrees, we should get it the way we requested. Our waitress was MORE than pleasant and really wanted to help. After about 20 mins, and mine and my husband's dinners getting cold, I asked how the steaks were coming along. Our server went to "check" and them came back with one steak. She informed us the kitchen said the other steak would be another 7 minutes. I said there is no way a medium rare steak would take 27 minutes. I asked for her to request the steak right away out of the kitchen. She returned shortly with the steak, and of course, both steaks were well done....again.... She said the kitchen told her they thought the steaks were too raw. We were over it at this point and requested the bill. Our server sent over a "manager", which told me was "just covering" for the real manager. She was rude and dismissive, and couldn't have cared less. She had no business interacting with guests. Glen Arbor is full of amazing restaurants and quite a few hidden treasures. There are plenty of other options especially for this price point and...
Read moreWildly meh and overpriced. I rarely eat fish and do not eat meat any more so to have this be my rare sojourn was disappointing to say the least. I got the Alaskan Salmon which was dry and uninspired with a balsamic glaze that really wanted for an acid to give it some punch and the lemon wedge they plated it with was not up to the task. My father got the ribeye special which was definitely not ribeye, and if it was someone had smashed it all to hell with a meat mallet, probably to cook faster. And for $34, which is normally not unreasonable for a good steak, it should have been a better cut. Admittedly, the salad offered was very fresh and had pumpkin seeds and dried cherries which were a welcome surprise. Plus, they had the choice of several different dressings, the three we got were quite good with the lemon basil vinaigrette being the clear winner and very delicious. Overall not worth the money spent or the time spent driving from where we were staying to eat there. The server was lovely, the decor was cutely nautical with a model sailboat in the middle of the dining room, but the food was so-so. If you like bland food try it out, maybe we just caught them at an off night, but we'll certainly not...
