Sylvan Inn is a nice place. I don't mind the oldness of it because it looks like it's been maintained. Expect creaky floors but not an issue since people don't walk around during bedtime. Our breakfast was lite but good. Quiche and yogurt parfait all made by Cody the innkeeper. The quiche was nicely done. The coffee was also very good. Now for the feedback. We were in Rm 7. First on the list is the vibration noise caused by the ac condenser unit which is mounted on the outside wall. This is a split system with a remote condenser. It must be a heat pump type since it can be operated for heat. I believe it serves Rms 7&8. We didn't use the ac for heat and used the baseboard heat instead. But it looks like Rm 8 did. At about 1 am I woke up and noticed a low humming noise ramping up which turned into vibration of the outside wall. It was an intermittent cycle every few minutes throughout the night which pretty much kept me awake. The next morning I walked around the back where the noise was coming from and summized that it was coming from the condenser which was attached to the wall of my room instead of being on the ground. I mentioned it to the innkeeper in the morning and he said he will look into it. I suggested to try to put vibration isolators on the mounts of the unit. It may eliminate the problem but I doubt it. Best solution is to mount it on the ground. I would avoid room 7 until that problem is fixed. I will say I did not hear much commotion in the kitchen in the morning as other reviews had mentioned. The other things have to do with preparation of the room. There are two beds and we slept on the larger bed. The top bedsheet had a strong mildewy odor. But the sheet you sleep on was fine. And at the foot end of the sheet had grains of sand/dirt. Made me wonder if the bedding was changed. Lastly, before we leave a hotel room we always check under the bed just in case we left something. We found slippers that were not ours, a plastic grocery bag and dust that appears to not have been cleaned for a while all indicating it is not checked nor cleaned. Other issue is seating accommodation during meals. There should be additional seating around the main floor for dining other than just the dining table. The porch is fine but its a bit cold in the morning at this time of the year and will get even colder. Contactless is pointless if we cannot distance ourselves. During this time of covid these matters are...
Read moreMy husband and I stay here every year for our wedding anniversary trip. Its proximity to Sleeping Bear Dunes and the delicious breakfasts are what keep us coming back. This year was a little different due to Covid19 restrictions, but we still enjoyed our time a lot. The innkeepers seemed like they were stretched a bit thin. We stayed from Friday night until Sunday morning, and both breakfasts took at least a 45-minute wait, because they were making each guest's plate individually. As long as you're aware of this and not starving or on a tight schedule, it's not a problem. The food was delicious and made with love and care, as always. Usually there is a wonderful selection of specialty teas from the store next door, but this weekend their supply ran out, and they never refilled. They did have some generic teas in the meantime, and that was fine with us. Our room was comfortable and cozy and clean. The plug in the bathroom wouldn't close completely, so we had to manually screw it shut to take a bath. Other than that, everything was perfect! We especially loved having a small table and chairs to enjoy meals, since takeout meals are more common now. Overall, a wonderful stay and can't wait to go...
Read moreThis historic Inn by Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore is like a warm embrace. It draws you in and folds you in comfort and nostalgia for simpler times. The location, comfort, decor, breakfast, wraparound porch, and nearby art galleries are all excellent. We very much enjoyed eating our breakfast on the porch on a chilly damp October morning. They have an excellent selection of teas and a delicious breakfast each morning. Our bed was very comfortable, and we both had a great sleep the nights that we stayed. We loved all of the antique furniture, photos and other touches; although the Inn is historic and there are lots of period pieces throughout, it did not appear dusty and was super clean everywhere, especially our room (#5) which was spacious and had a small porch off the back. Beck was a friendly and efficient hostess at breakfast in the mornings and we appreciated her hospitality. We would definitely stay here again anytime we’re in the area. Thank...
