So, some friends referred us to this establishment so we decided to give it a try for our anniversary dinner. Making reservations was easy and we were kindly greeted upon arrival. As we waited for our table in the lobby area, the ambiance was pleasant with the fireplace going and wonderful smells coming from the kitchen.
We sat down at our booth and was greeted by a young lady, lets call her “A”. We let her know this was our Anniversary and first visit which she appeared very delighted to share the evenings offerings. As we perused the menu, my wife sought a good wine, which they have a large list to choose from. My wife made a comment about a quality wine vs. cheaper wines and “A” promptly let us know the restaurant does not serve cheap wines at all. So wife chose a decent red. I had trouble deciding on which entree to order and “A” asked to “go over the entire menu” with me which I stated was not necessary. It seemed to be an odd suggestion being that we dine often at fine restaurants through our travels, both domestic and internationally. It was simply a decision issue and not a reading comprehension issue.
Perhaps it was just our perception, but “A” seemed to present a slightly condescending tone of voice with her above stated responses.
FOOD: We ordered Rack of Lamb, Sea Bass, Potato Au gratin and green beans. The food was cooked perfectly however, all dishes needed a bit more salt, pepper and perhaps some garlic to wake it up. We had quite a bit of food to take home which we could later add seasoning and enjoy at home.
“A” offered us the famous Butter Cake for our celebratory evening, which was tasty and after we had a few small bites, we asked to take the remaining cake home.
A young man came to our table to remove our plates and we asked to take everything left on our plates home.
Well, when we got home, I found that the cake was ridiculously deconstructed as shown in the photos below (which we discarded for our instinctive personal safety) and our leftover green beans went missing because they were not in our take home boxes. We still left a significant gratuity because we know what its like to work in the service industry.
So, to the reader of this review, please go and see how you like it as you may have a better experience than us. I understand this place has great reviews however, we found it to be average at best, solely based on our experience. Also, I suppose its the “hot spot” for the west side of the metro but unfortunately, they did not leave a positive first impression with us.
A few places that we do enjoy and recommend include Talavera, Steak 44, Mastro’s, & The Persian Room, just...
Read moreWe just relocated to Arizona two months ago. We've visited a lot through the years and have wanted to move here for a long time. That being said, we'd eaten here twice in the past. The last time in October of 2017. Both visits had been phenomenal. I'd been looking forward to going back ever since. Fast forward. Yesterday was my birthday and my husband thought this would be the perfect place to go. It should have been. It wasn't. First, I want to say, our waiter was excellent. Great personality and great service. His name was Robert. The rest of the staff was excellent as well. The food was mediocre, at best. Some people like Italian. Some like French. I like those, too. But great steakhouses are my thing. I don't mind the prices, even today's prices (unfortunately, it is, what it is), if the quality is there. It wasn't. The steak was good, not great. At $4.30 an OUNCE, it should have been awesome. It was properly cooked. There were three of us. My husband, our daughter, and myself. We all had the 12oz. filet. We all agreed, it was good. It was NOT $68.99 each good. Not by a long shot. My husband ordered the Au Gratin potatoes. He said they were very good, but were cut too thick. Au Gratins should be thin. My daughter and I ordered the creamed spinach and Lyonnaise Potatoes. The creamed spinach, a favorite of ours, wasn't only not good. It was AWFUL. The chef should be embarrassed to send that slop to a table. I simply can't get over just how bad it was! The Lyonnaise were bland. No flavor at all. The steak knives, weren't. They weren't serrated. Seriously?! We were in a booth. My husband and I on one side. My daughter on the other. I didn't have enough elbow room to cut my steak. And let's face it, a good filet should be fork tender. As it was my birthday, I received a complimentary butter cake. I am grateful we didn't have to pay for it. To be honest, my husband loved it. The center, the Very center, was tender and good. The rest was dry and hard. We did not complain. I mean really, we weren't looking for free food. Which is really the only thing they can do. We ordered. We ate. We will not be going back, any time soon. Unless we see reviews begin to say the quality has improved. Everything, except the service, was a huge disappointment. Again our waiter,...
