Holy Cow is by far my favorite Ice Cream place on the North Shore. I’m sure it would also be my favorite Ice Cream place on the South Shore, and very likely the East and West shores as well, it’s just that I don’t bother visiting the other shores for ice cream anymore because I found Holy Cow. Walking into Holy Cow (“HC”) is always a pleasant experience. The first thing you notice is how clean it is. The second thing you notice is how it smells exactly like a Yankee Candle, and a real Yankee Candle, not one of those bigger Yankee Candle knockoffs you can get at Walgreens because you forgot about Mother’s Day again in 2008. The third you notice is the smiling face of the owner, Mike. Despite what I’m sure are immeasurable stresses that come along with running a busy Ice Cream Café, Mike is always cheerful. He may be a small business owner, but he’s just as much a big heart owner. Mike takes great pride in his work. I belong to a Big Brother program and took my “Little” to visit the Café one day this summer. Mike gave my “Little” a thrill when he offered him a small cone and a free refill of coffee. I highly recommend stopping by this “hidden gem” in Gloucester on your next trip to the beach. Try the GREEN MONSTAH ice cream sandwich, a perfectly worded name for a sandwich that’s big, awe-inspiring, and a...
Read moreWell, I can't speak to if the ice cream is good or not because I couldn't get any due to having food allergies! But here is the thing, they have posted an amazing allergy statement including the 2 options you have if you have food allergies and want ice cream. So we waited in the long line, when it is finally our turn I tell them I have food allergies like the sign says too. They offered me a top 8 allergen list... great... I explain I have allergies outside the top 8 and I would need to see the ingredients for the ice cream I was interested in. I was told that they don't know what the ingredients are, and when I asked if they were marked on the tubs or on the prepackaged pints I was told NO they don't know the ingredients. That I should email and find out... great but I'm not local how does that help me when now is when I am here to get ice cream (hopefully).
So, needless to say, I could not get any ice cream. So, if you have any allergies outside of the normal top 8, be warned that they will not accommodate or help you at the store. Maybe you can email if you know you want to go there and hope yo get a response beforehand. I will say I did try calling the day before we went, and the phone line was always busy, so that was no...
Read moreDecent ice cream good service, Holy cow has been around for a long time and it’s awesome seeing it succeed and grow. The worker today who served me Sophia I believe was her name (Sunday April 27th at 5 P.M.) has been around for a long time and she’s always been a pleasure to talk too. I highly recommend holy cow to others looking for a unique take on the ice cream scene.for me it’s a little too rich and a little too sweet but for a treat every once in a while it’s nice. On the other hand I’m unhappy with the pricing. Especially regarding the frappes. I understand they take time and the ice cream you manufacture is hand made. But increasing the price while at the same time reducing the cup size is just diabolical. Compared to another local ice cream shop in town white farms manufacturers their own ice cream charges less and provides a significantly larger cup. It’s your business and if it sells that’s good for you. Otherwise you’ll still find me buying ice cream (especially frappes) from other stores. Figured I’d leave a review with the nice stuff on top. Otherwise thank you for another good...
