This hotel is beautiful, and bills itself as a luxury destination, but I had a very different experience. The location on the beach is lovely, and has some stunning views at sunrise. The room I stayed in (213) was nice but unremarkable; it could have been in any three-star hotel, but it wasn't missing any necessities other than the issues I write about below: heating/cooling, and noise.
I arrived very late (3 am) on a Sunday night/Monday morning after flying into Boston Logan, and received a call before arriving that they were having some issues with their HVAC system, and they would be placing a space heater in the room in case I needed it. For my entire stay (4 nights), there was no heating, cooling, or ventilation, save for that heater. I reported the issue several times, and the front desk would call later saying it was fixed, but the issue remained broken.
The room I was staying in was on the back side of the hotel ("City View"), and proved to have another issue: noise. The hotel backs up to a lobster company that receives trucks at all hours (as early as 3am), and loads them with a forklift. This means there is a large amount of diesel noise, beeping from the forklift, and loud bangs as the forklift enters the trucks. In addition to this, my room was directly above the hotel loading dock, where deliveries are made first thing in the morning, and garbage is picked up. When the garbage is picked up, a sickening smell of trash would enter the room and persist for a while. The windows only open 2 inches, so there wasn't a lot of ventilation to clear this odor once the truck was gone. When I reported the noise and odor to the front desk, the staffer was courteous, but said she could only move me to room 215, which was two spaces over and the smallest room in the hotel. Because this would still suffer from the noise and odor, I opted not to deal with moving.
On the first night of my stay, I woke up very early to the sound of a large crane loading HVAC units onto the roof, which was impossible to sleep through. It was just outside my window and very loud. I understand that sometimes maintenance like this is unavoidable, but it got things off to a bad start, and it would have been nice if it didn't occur first thing. I would expect a first-class hotel to schedule maintenance for midday or otherwise take care of guests so they aren't inconvenienced by the work.
The noise issues persisted even when the windows were closed, as the windows did not seal well, and the room appeared to have poor sound isolation. When closed, the windows would whistle with the wind, and I could feel cold air coming in.
The shower in the room suffered from poor water pressure, so showering required huddling under the showerhead to stay warm. The toilet was poorly mounted and rocked a bit, but this was a minor issue.
The hotel restaurant and bar are very comfortable and serve good food with pretty reasonable prices for a resort hotel. I did order room service my first morning and it was prompt. The iced coffee was really bad (extremely acidic), but the avocado toast was excellent.
The hotel charges 10 dollars a night for parking. Because I was on business and needed to be flexible with departure times, I opted to self-park. The hotel has limited self-parking that was frequently full. The large hotel garage is designated valet-only, and depending on who is on valet duty, they wouldn't permit self-parking. I ended up parking on the street at times.
I've stayed in some pretty terrible places, so none of this was unendurable, but if I had been paying hundreds per night to stay in a resort hotel, I would have been furious at my experiences staying at the Beauport. The issues themselves were pretty serious, and the staff's lack of empowerment to fix issues was disappointing and made the negative experiences worse. All told, the experience felt like a cardboard façade with the looks of a luxury hotel, without the follow-through that makes fine hotels a...
Read moreI went here to meet with our group who was dining on the deck during the last evening of Fiesta. Of course it was busy, but the treatment received by the staff and especially security was horrific.
I was warned that security and management had been especially rude and standoffish the night prior and had even tried to tell my brother he couldn't be there with his group because they were at "Max Capacity". So he can't be a part of the party that had already made a reservation and was already inside the building waiting for him? That doesn't really make sense but after going through what I went through here, this seems to be Beauport's M.O.
Several complaints were made to the manager about that, they offered a gift card but clearly nothing was adjusted with the staff as it was significantly worse when I was joining my party the next night on the deck.
When I arrived my group told me they were waiting for their table on the deck. When go on the deck, someone stopped me at the door saying it was closed. There were numerous people out there including my group which I explained to the man that stopped me.
He told me to go to the hostess who also said the deck is closed. At that point nobody was helping me so I just called my brother and his girlfriend to please come find me.
I watched her exit the deck, come to the lobby and when we walked back to the doors to the deck an overweight security guard in aviators said that we were not allowed to be there.
I explained again that we have a reservation, they had been waiting on the deck the whole time and that our group was standing there right in front of him so why all of the sudden are we not allowed on the deck?
He continued to say we had to leave- totally careless of the fact that we had a table being prepared at that time. His ego trip wouldn't allow him to hear logic apparently because he still kept trying to kick us out simply for going back to the area my group was already standing in right in front of him for the past half hour. I pointed to my brother and said he was there the whole time so why is he kicking us out now? Why were we not allowed to continue waiting as a group for our table?
The security guard said pointing to my brother who he tried to kick out yesterday for no reason as he was doing to me today "Oh you mean the problematic guy? No, you can all leave."
At that point I was irate. None of us were drinking, causing problems, or standing in the way of others. These security guards were simply just being jerks because they could and to insult my family and kick us out without reason was disgusting.
I am 5 months pregnant and being spoken to like trash by someone who clearly just likes the sound of his own voice was a level of stress I do not need right now. I was appalled that The Beauport Hotel would allow their employees to be so abrasive with paying customers. Other security staff came up and asked what was wrong, I reiterated AGAIN what the issue was and finally we were allowed to continue wait for our table on the deck as a group.
Several other parties were witnessing our mistreatment and the fact that more security guards were now coming to us saying we were not allowed to stand, we had to sit. That was funny because we were literally just told we weren't allowed to sit and we had to stand. This place is an absolute circus. A woman from the other party near us was saying how awful they were being treated too.
Everyone there was just pissed off and tired of the BS. This completely ruined what would have been an enjoyable time. The food is shockingly bad. The waitress was great but her and the valet were the only ones that treated us with dignity.
Beauport, next time you want to verbally abuse a pregnant lady for trying to meet up with her family- make sure she's not with the same guy you singled out the night before who you had to give a $100 gift card to for your lack of professionalism.
The wannabe mall cops you employ could also use some...
Read moreMy husband and I married at the Beauport last month on November 4th. It truly was a fairy tale and we couldn't say enough great things. Our journey with the Beauport started almost by accident, as we were in the hotel not realizing it could be a potential wedding venue. We stumbled into the ballroom and immediately were taken by it's brightness, with 2 full walls of ocean-facing windows, by the huge bar in the center of the room, and by the wood floor (meaning the entire room could be a dance floor!). Going out on the deck gave us both chills, envisioning saying "I do" next to the ocean, in the New England coastal setting of our dreams. We didn't have a formal tour set up that day, so we asked some folks working there if anyone was available. That was the first moment we experienced the impeccable Beauport service. Members of the staff were not only accommodating but they truly shared in our newly engaged excitement. They were so enthusiastic about us considering them and so helpful. We immediately felt like we we'd be in good hands if we chose to marry there. From the moment we signed the contract, the events staff was extremely prompt in answering any of our questions and always so helpful. Caleb from Group Travel was amazing with managing our room block. I think he probably did 5+ crosschecks of our entire guest list against the reservations that weekend which couldn't have been a quick task. He always did so like it was no big deal at all and always so fast! Before we knew it it was time to be assigned a wedding coordinator and we were so lucky to have gotten Amanda Pollock. She was an absolute dream. From the first time we met with her we felt like we were in the absolute best hands possible. She answered all of our questions without any hesitation, knowing the Beauport as well as all flower/photo/dj vendors in seemingly the entire North Shore/Boston area like the back of her hand. Beyond this was her calming and warm presence. Amanda had a way of making us feel SO at ease and like there was no need to stress, cause she had our backs. We left each meeting with her feeling on top of the world with a new sense of excitement about our upcoming nuptials. The weekend of the wedding, Amanda and the entire Beauport team made us feel so special and truly made everything go off without a hitch. All of the little details around timing and coordinating all of the vendors were all taken care of for us so that all we had to do was enjoy ourselves and soak in the moment. We were so lucky to have a gorgeous fall day, and to see our visions come true – saying "I do" on the deck, the sun coming out from the overcast sky just as I walked down the aisle. I'm getting emotional writing about it because it was truly, truly just perfect. The rest of the evening was too – the space was airy and bright and big enough for all of our 150 guests to feel like they could move around, get a drink without waiting in a long line, and DANCE! The arrangement of tables all around the dance floor made it feel so inclusive and like there was not a bad seat in the house. The afterparty being at the Beauport bar was SO convenient and fun! All of the firepits were open to us outside and to see all of our family and friends sit around them enjoying the end of the evening was a sight we'll never forget. Truly could never recommend the Beauport enough and say enough great things about Amanda and the...
