FILOS — Restaurant in Gluckstadt

While searching Google for somewhere to eat as we passed through the area on a Sunday, I was excited to find a Greek/Mediterranean restaurant. The newer complex that Filo's is located in has quite a few food options, and everything is clean with plenty of parking. At Filo's, you order at the counter, take a number, and seat yourself. We ordered a classic gyro, a southern heat gyro, and hummus w/soft pitas. The tzatziki sauce is very good, and really gave the classic gyro a smooth, cool taste. The BBQ sauce concept for the southern heat gyro was a little too out there for me, but my friend enjoyed it. The hummus had very little flavor, and is not something we would order again, but the pitas were nice and soft. Our interaction with the staff was minimal and not very personable, but things seemed to be run efficiently, so it is hard to complain too much. Our overall impression of the restaurant was good, and we would definitely suggest...

Ate here today while passing thru on a trip. For fast food it's pretty good, but really there was little flavor to the very nicely presented lamb platter we ordered. It was plenty to share. A nice selection of things in the platter. Sadly however there was very little flavor. The tzatziki was bland, the hummus was ok, the lamb was bland. As I said, for fast food it's a good choice, but not so much if you are looking for a really delicious lunch. The baklava smells wonderful and they even warmed it up for us. But it was marginal. The bottom pastry was doughy. The flavor was nice, just was missing that honey...

Gyro was average. Looked like an ok amount of meat at first but was sliced so thin that it ended up being a pitiful amount of meat. Way way overpriced on everything by about 4x considering the average quality and small amount. Food quality isn’t bad but it’s nothing special even here and this place would be out of business in a week in any area with an actual good gyro place.

I guess go here if you’re too lazy to drive another 10 minutes to better places in Madison and also want to spend $17 on a 1/4 meat gyro with a small fries and a drink....
