Where to start, as my gripe is mostly with their menu and pricing. Everything (sandwhich/burger wise) is by itself, so you pay $15+ for a item, to then spend $5+ for a side. Some of the burgers are $17/18 with nothing else with them. $70 for 1 kids chicken & fries (it's funky, NOT normal strips but ground up mixed chicken made into balls and fried up), 1 BBQ burger (no fries), 1 Fried chicken sandwhich (again no fries) & 2 drinks off the happy hour menu (1 beer, 1 margarita). The drinks were $22 for both and they took $6 off as happy hour. The beer is excellent. The margarita is so-so (not worth the $14). It comes out of a lemonade style machine, so not hand made or anything. Everything was just OK. The BBQ burger had WAY too much BBQ sauce, sloppy, and wouldn't suggest that again. The chicken was just OK as well, nothing special, and not worth the price. Every person in our group ordered other menu items with mostly the same comments of price releated.
We've had the rib tips prior and nachos. Nacho's are GREAT, and would suggest that as their best starter. The rib tips & fries have good sauce, but the tips require too much hand-eating and you get next to no meat for the work required.
Parking is great, plenty of it. Resturant itself is clean, staff friendly, nothing I could say bad about any of that side.
The only plus side is the happy hour as it's half off starters & a lot of the starters are just sides. Not sure ordering a side of corn or mac & cheese is what you're going for (maybe) but that is the ONLY way to keep going to this place is happy hour.
I really want to see this place stay, but needs a better price structure. There's no way this spot will make it with not having other items, or revising items to bring more value. These spots are popping up all over Santa Barbara/Goleta with different menu items, but when a Tri-Tip sandwhich is over $20 (with no side) & corn is $15 I'm not sure how this will work in the long run. The ONLY true value outside of the happy hour would be the Kids Burger & Fries. I'd just order that vs anything on their menu for getting a...
Read moreWow, this is Noleta Jill, not the funk zone of SB!! $17 burger? No sides? Pipe dream! I went there tonight with a reservation for a party of 8 and they completely forgot so had to find some dirty tables and clean them. Then, the busboy advised us that my service dog was not allowed "inside". There is no real inside as it was entirely open air! It is ILLEGAL, Jill, to deny access to a patron with a service dog, perhaps you should hire more knowledgeable staff...the manager was called (though she was waiting tables so who the heck knows!) and she advised me that they normally don't allow dogs inside the "restaurant" ( I use that word VERY loosely...) even though multiple dogs were sitting quietly with their humans nearby, but technically not IN the facility despite no walls. I advised her that it is illegal to deny a service dog and she responded "if it behaves it's OK, but we've had some issues with dogs." Not my problem, Jill, yours. Teach your staff to be more polite and respectable to customers, but don't expect anything less than a sandwich shop atmosphere when you have to drop $40 for a small meal and a beer, all after having to seat yourself, find the menus, and stand in line to order said $40 meal! I WILL NEVER EAT AT SHALHOOBS AGAIN! Go back to SB and rip off tourists...
Read moreFrom the moment I approached the restaurant, Felipe made me feel welcome with his warm and accommodating disposition.
Gonzalo, who assisted us at the counter, was equally delightful and outgoing throughout the entire transaction. He provided excellent menu recommendations and highlighted the current offerings. I decided to try two of his suggestions, and both were fantastic. Felipe and Gonzalo's personable and enthusiastic service truly stood out from the beginning.
The food arrived in a timely manner, allowing us to enjoy drinks and have a relaxing chat before our meal. The Baja fish tacos were bursting with flavor, while the tri-tip tacos had a satisfying texture. The salsa was mild yet savory, perfectly complementing the classic margarita.
The presentation of the dishes was impressive—generous portions and vibrant colors. The atmosphere of the restaurant was laid-back and inviting, with lively, enjoyable music adding to the experience. The restaurant was clean, and the tables were regularly attended to.
Overall, I highly recommend this location. The attentive and diligent staff make the dining experience...
