If I could give this place zero stars I would! I first would like to start off by saying I was a huge fan of the atmosphere and the food here for years but after the way, me and my family and friends were treated on April 7th 2023 I would NEVER go back! If you’re a person of color, specifically black this is not the place for you.
My daughter chose to have her 16th birthday here and we were put out due to the color of our skin! Before, inviting all of our friends and family to this restaurant I called to see if we can make reservations. I was told by firehouse, Gastro Park staff that no reservations were needed. It was all open seating, and there was more than enough room for us. We invited our family and friends to meet us there at 6:30 to celebrate. However, we arrived at 5:15 to ensure we would have to seating for everyone.. upon our guest arriving we noticed exactly a lot of people started to come in due to live music. With that being said, several white guest started staring at us, as if we were a freak show and making derogatory remarks because they wanted our seats. We had a party of 35 so I told the kids to get in line so that we could get our food. The white guest continue to make remarks because they wanted us to move. The guest went as far as to contact the owner who has been walking around greeting people all night and have him come up to us to ask if we bought tickets for the concert. We advised him that we had not because we called prior and was told by staff no reservations were needed. The owner of proceeded to tell us that the guest purchased tickets for the concert so we advised him that we would go ahead and purchase tickets. He then advised us tickets were purchased in advance, which was not true. There was a man selling tickets in eyesight! The owner proceeded to tell us that the mayor of Grand Prairie was there, and this was a huge event. Not once did the owner offered to make any type of accommodations for us. I explain to him that my daughter chose to have her 16th birthday party there because she really liked the restaurant but the owner was completely uninterested in what we had to say. At that moment, I felt very uncomfortable, and as if our business was not wanted there. I advise the owner of my feelings and his words were “don’t make it seem like that” . There was no point of me speaking to the owner, because nothing was being resolved so we left.
I’ve never been treated in such a disrespectful way in my life ! The owner completely disregarded anything that we had to say, and almost ruined my daughter’s birthday! The fact of the matter is, he was not worried about our group sitting outside until several of the white guest made it such a big deal that we were there. Totally unacceptable and...
Read moreFor right now, I will give this place three stars. They are experiencing a bit of growing pains; however, they are trying to bring the area something eclectic.
The ambiance is phenomenal, with a quaint coffee house on one side and the other, a sufficient bar. I had the Shiner and I noticed a few customers going back for something in a small plastic cup ( I will try it, whatever it was, next time).
We played it safe and ordered the Cajun fries and the fried pickles. The “Cajun” fries had seasoning salt splashed over them. I guess that it what made them “Cajun.” The fries were something to go with my beer. Here is the twist, pickles had the same seasoning, but they were not “Cajun” pickles. We only ate two to three. The batter was bland and the douse of seasoning salt did not do the trick. Luckily, they were only three bucks.
The manager or owner was courteous and stopped by our table to check and see if we had received our chicken; we hadn’t order any. However, he told us it was taking the kitchen about 30 to 35 minutes to produce the bird. I am sure this could be expected in a new establishment like FHGP.
I know this is a practice run for the place; it adds a touch of “city” to Grand Prairie with a down home feel.
I will go back for the chicken and see where things have improved. At that point, I will...
Read moreI am completely lost for words. We went to this location to celebrate my Niece Sweet 16 . We called around 4:00pm and spoke to someone and asked how seating works. We were informed that it’s open seating inside and out . We arrived around 5:00pm and choose seating outside in the Picnic area . People started to arrive and the Picnic area began to fill up. We are women of color and there was about 25 teenagers and 7 adults . We were racially profiled and asked to remove ourselves from the Picnic areas as there was a band playing . The owner his self asked us to leave , or find seating else where . He stated that people have payed for wrist bands. I informed him that we would pay for tickets it was not a problem. He stated that they had already been bought as they were having the Mayor of Grand Prairie . I am a professional black woman and I have never and I repeat have never been treated with such disrespect. My Niece birthday was ruined as people are still today dealing with a problem of being racially profiled . It’s so sad that we could not enjoy a restaurant that everyone loves going to . People were making comments such as I guess I will let them sit there and not force them to get up. This is disgusting and this is not acceptable!!!! To add we stood in line to order food and waited for 30 mins to be asked to...
