POUTINE WEEK 2025.
2025 Poutine Week - Beer City Poutine – $22: HIGH QUALITY but smaller portion. The 4oz thinly cut beef medallion (they called it filet mignon) was high quality meat. It was cooked perfectly, was juicy, and fall-apart savory. The fries were thick cut, higher quality, and went well. The Wisconsin cheese curds were good, but there were not a lot of them. The scallion garnish (somewhat like french unions, but a lot softer) was delicious, but tended to stick together making it difficult to incorporate evenly into each bite.
VERY high quality, but you get a smaller portion and pay for it. It is the most expensive poutine during Poutine Week 2025.
Smash Burger - $13: The half pound burger patty was fairly standard. Though it is called a smash burger, it is way too thick to be considered a true smash burger. Smash burgers have to be thin to be cooked fast to get the crisp texture and maintain the juicy interior. That said, the burger was juicy and good. The toppings were as ordered and fresh. The american cheese was $1.50 extra and the bacon $2.50 extra. For an 8oz burger, the price is competitive.
Chips (free with burger): Standard wavy cut chips.
The menu is fairly simple but the food is higher quality. The waters were served in red plastic cups.
Service: Prompt, helpful, and did not miss anything. We were thanked for stopping by on the way out (by Maggie?). They made sure we had everything we needed and yet gave us the space to figure out our order without pressure.
Atmosphere: Clean and tidy while still maintaining a rustic feel. No booths. Only tables and chairs, some high some standard height. There was also outdoor seating in the front. While it was well put together and classy, there were a couple of items on the walls that had foul language, but not much and it was smaller.
Conclusion: It is a higher quality restaurant leaving room for anyone off the street to stop by. I’d recommend them.

Read moreWe have been to Maggie’s twice now. We live nearby and were hoping to find another spot for our local walkable restaurant rotation. The first time we went, the food was good and the drinks were reasonably priced. The second time we ordered food and the same drinks as the first time. However, when the bill came, the price was nearly double our 1st visit, specifically because our drinks were charged completely differently. We had the same drinks, ordered the same way, but they were almost double the price. So overall, our bill was surprisingly high. Now I don’t know which bartender charged us correctly, but based on the second visit’s drink pricing, we would not return. We can get similar meals nearby for significantly less money. And I’m disappointed, because I really liked the sandwiches I had...
