Tacos El Cuñado at the Downtown Market — Restaurant in Grand Rapids

I usually go to the one on Grandville Avenue, but wanted to try this one out. On Grandville Avenue, you can taste the purity in the meal that they prepare, like you're really tasting the heart and soul of what makes the food truly authentic. Here in the downtown market, it's authentic Mexican food but still tastes "Americanized". I'm not going to lie, I freakin hated it. The horchata tasted watered down, and I could barely taste the cinnamon in it. And the food did not have enough seasoning on it. I felt robbed and truly insulted. Especially since I paid $3 for a size small cup of horchata, when I can pay less than that for the largest size some place else AND, it tastes like horchata is supposed to. Did I mention how gross it was? Yeah, I definitely won't be back. Any place for TRUE authentic Mexican food is better than here. This place is just a joint for college aged kids that wouldn't know what it means to be authentic even if it slapped them...

This has to be one of my all time favorite taco places. Ever. I have yet to venture outside of the taco trio... however, I can't help it when that is all I crave! The chorizo and pork tacos are my favorite and they do NOT disappoint. I have also tried the chicken and the shrimp, very good as well. I was pleasantly surprised yesterday when I visited and noticed the had changed up their chips. Before they were serving El Matador chips, which are not my favorite; yesterday they had a more homemade, deep-fried chip that was awesome! Do not skip out on the homemade guacamole, either. It is seriously delicious. I love their salsa bar, too. Great options and flavors, but be careful. When they say HOT... they mean it. Also, do yourself a favor and order a horchata. All in all......

Went to order tacos and no one was present. So placed order on kiosk which does not allow to add items to tacos such as lettuce or tomatoes. The girl showed up after I ordered so asked her to add she said okay. The salsa area was a complete disgusting mess. Got food which took longer then me going to another place and ordering a dozen wings and additional items and came back and still not ready when there was no one else waiting for food yet. I ordered 2 tacos at 4.00 each and chips and salsa for 3.75 and my order was over $17. Bland no seasoning and upon opening my order it was 2 tacos with beef in a tortilla with nothing else and the chips salsa and guacamole all crammed into a tiny paper box. Try another place and...
