First, the food: They recently opened their kitchen and I tried two of their sliders. If I recall correctly I tried the Cowpoke and Chimi. So good! They're just the right level of greesy and savory. They have a few beers on tap, pretty standard bar/pub setup. All in all, eating there and drinking there is a good experience.
Second, the context: This place is really cool, I went there on Wednesday for their weekly Magic The Gathering night. I bought a Commander preconstructed deck, they had a pretty limited selection but they had some powerful stuff for what they did have, and the prices were all comparable to most MTG product retailers, the top of my mind is something like Galactic Toys on 28th Street which is my usual go-to. I got the Graveyard Overdrive deck from Modern Horizons III, which was a really powerful set. It was like 45, 50 bucks? I've had a lot of fun with it, although heads up I bought the last copy of their precons from that set. They have a lot of Doctor Who precons that were cheaper but they just didn't look as interesting to me. Anyway I met some wonderful people that night, just be warned it's very popular weekly event. If you want a good seat you'll want to be there by 4:30pm, or 5pm. We arrived at 6:30 and only had room at the bar until we got invited over to someone else's game who had room. But everyone was friendly and queer inclusive as well. They even bought my friend and I some deck boxes and card sleeves to help us get started with our new decks! Big thanks to Art, Eric, and Bob! All in all I think this place is super awesome and I plan on coming back as many Wednesday...

I dont even like board games very much but THIS PLACE IS THEEEEEEE HIDDEN GEM OF GRAND RAPIDS!!!!!! There has never been a time where me and my wife have gone here, and gotten shitty service, shitty attitudes, or a shitty experience. Make sure you call ahead if you need a reservation! They are incredibly accommodating and will let you know if you need one especially on the weekends, but the bar is usually aways open.
With variety in hundreds of board games, you are sure to find SOMETHING you like. If you’re anything like me, so many options can tend to be overwhelming, but they even have a solution for that! They have a tv set up so you can look at staff member's top 10 games they have in store, and what they recommend.
Got the munchies? Their food is incredible before, and especially since their expansion, and are so affordable for date night foods. Their drinks are incredible as well(try their amoretto sour!). I sincerely can not express how much I love This place, and every time it’s in the talks for this weeks’ date night, it feels like Christmas.
Please come and see it for yourself.i can not praise it enough, This place deserves all the love it recieved and even more...
Read moreWe are from out of town and got married in Grand Rapids. House Rules Lounge quickly became one of our favorite locations in the area. We love boardgames and after spending a few hours there, we reached out online to determine if it was a possible venue to host a rehearsal dinner.
Nathan was extremely responsive and really put effort into navigating the details of hosting this unique event for us. The kitchen is a relatively new addition, so there were definitely new components to try out for a private event. Nathan gladly worked out having his staff stagger orders for the kitchen and having many separate tabs for food and drinks per our request.
All this to say, this was the best rehearsal dinner for our group of 50 guests (wedding party, family, and additional gaming friends)! There were so many games to play, a great selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, and the menu had so many delicious options. There were plenty of staff present to assist with orders and picking games. Our guests didn’t want the event to end!
A huge thank you to Nathan, Brian, and the staff! We are still raving about how fun and unique our rehearsal dinner was. We will certainly be back when we...
