Today was our first time visiting this particular Captain D's, and we had an awful experience. Having said that, we understand that every establishment is apt to have a bad day, and we WILL try it one more time at some point in the future, just to see if this is the norm.
I ordered the blackened tilapia with broccoli and green beans. The fish came out crusty, dry as day old bread, and cold. It literally looked as if it had been leftover from yesterday and nuked, but not enough to warm it up. I had to chew and swallow the one bit I managed, simply because I didn't want to spit food out in public. The bed of rice it was served on wasn't much better. It was supposed to be seasoned, but I don't think it had been.
The broccoli was so cold, it actually felt like it had been rested on ice. Not even a hint of warmth at all. I couldn't eat past the first bite.
The green beans were warm enough that I ate all of them, as we had been on the road for over an hour and I was just really hungry. But even they didn't have the flavor you come to expect from Captain D's. Normally, they are one of my favorite things about the experience at this restaurant, but this trip, it was just something to take away my hunger for the moment.
My husband got the fish dinner with extra hushpuppies, but the extra hush puppies weren't even there and the breading on his fish was scorched dark brown on all pieces. He was able to eat his meal, after pulling off most of the breading, but with scorched breading comes dry fish. Thank goodness for tartar sauce, or he wouldn't have been able to eat his either.
In spite of the bad food, I have to say that the lady that took our order was pleasant, although she never really smiled. She was not short or hateful, and Sunday's are bad for that, so kudos to her.
As I said, we WILL attempt another visit at some point. If we get the same results, we will be forever scratching the place off our list, and we hate that. But there's just no excuse for serving what we had on our plates today. Even...
Read moreWell what can I say about the "D"? Food is always the same, good service however as a Sr citizen pricing confusing. Wish the corn on the cob still came in wrapper to keep it warm. Basically fish is a very fatty food on its own, then it's deep fried, breading very high in sodium HEY WHAT'S NOT TO LOVE? Glad they try new things on the menu, people can get their choice of breading and even a Chicago girl loves that fried okra! You leave there satisfied and if your an old geezer like me or know one (hi Mom!) sign up for the birthday club and each year around your birthday you will get a card for...
