Despite it's small stature, Bandito Bodega packs a huge range of delicious flavors. At first glance, it is a very small restaurant with very little seating and a burger joint style appeal. But this was an absolutely delicious meal, with depth in flavor for each meal choice/entree. Starting with the "Made to Order" chips and salsa it was incredible to see the relative depth of a tortilla chips, although mine were a little salty the flavor was intricate with a great texture. The salsa was great and fresh and was neither spicy nor too mild but again with great flavor. The guacamole was also very good and went very well with the thick and delicious chips. Moving on to entrees, what is shown in the pictures attached is the Southwest Pimento Cheese Burrito with Chorizo as the meat (choices of chicken, steak, tofu, shrimp, etc.) It was a fantastic blend of different cultural influences with a great balance in flavors and a great texture and crunch from the red cabbage. The beans and rice were good as well but the meats and pimento cheese were the defining flavors. Also sampled was the Tuna Bowl which was unbelievably fresh and tasty with a great mixture of flavors both sea and land. It was seared expertly and had a great flavor to it. If you like fish and Mexican food I would HIGHLY recommend. However I don't think you could go wrong at this restaurant. Finally, for those who enjoy beer they did have a nice and varied beer selection, the Songbird Jalepeno ale paired very well with my meal and was not spicy but had an flavor similar to a fresh Jalepeno. I definitely recommend this restaurant and will certainly go there again soon. I hope to see this restaurant to grow and move into a larger development with more seating, but regardless I definitely...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThough Greensboro is a competitive town for both tacos and food trucks, the Bandito Burrito truck has been a popular mainstay at events and festivals. When this brick-and-mortar offshoot opened at the beginning of the year, it had the benefits of name recognition and an extant fanbase. Though the food remains solid, the immobile iteration doesnāt exactly dazzle.
Bandito Bodega is a small spot with a short counter and a handful of tables inside and out. The parking lot is also smallish, and exiting onto Friendly Avenue takes some patience. Should you make it inside, the staff here are friendly, and the menu is tantalizing. Tacos come Asian style, Baja style, or crispy rolled. Burritos and bowls similarly offer both Mexican and Asian offerings, and there are plenty of protein choices (including tofu for vegetarian patrons).
Having enjoyed it off the truck, I opted for a Big Ass Burrito (rice, black beans, pico, corn, radish, red cabbage, cilantro, and tomatillo) with chorizo. In terms of portion sizing, it certainly lived up to its name and proved to be quite filling. Though many of the flavors came through, the chorizo lacked the expected spiciness.
Banditoās pricing, forgivable on a food truck, comes across as high for a sit-down restaurant. At $9, the bountiful burrito provides decent bang for the buck, until you factor in upcharges for cheese and guacamole. Meanwhile, a single baja-style fish taco runs north of $5.
There are enough menu options (kimchi fried rice balls, Korean-style po boys, etc.) to make Bandito Bodega worth further exploration, but future visits will come with somewhat lowered...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhile I was in Greensboro I decided to look up restaurant reviews so I could swing by and grab lunch to go. There are tons more options there than in Winston so I was quite excited to try someplace new. I saw that Bandito got a 4.7 so I called in a big order. I ordered a chicken gringo burrito, a steak gringo burrito (āno beans please, just add extra steak and riceā ā this part is important), dumplings, crispy rolled tacos and guac with chips. They bagged it all and I picked it all up. I started snacking on the guac while driving.
The guacamole was so bland. I couldnāt taste any salt. Meanwhile the nachos ā which were fried fresh ā had a ton of salt. I had to put it away because I didnāt want to keep chugging from my water bottle. When I got home I bit into my steak burrito to find that they actually ONLY gave me steak and rice, and wrapped that up. No shredded lettuce, no sour cream. It is the blandest burrito I have ever had. The steak and rice werenāt very well seasoned either, so bland. I havenāt tasted the rest but Iām so not excited about it. I spent about $70+.
I live an hour from Greensboro so this was a...
